Lockout update per Mort

Bad News. Looks like we will miss games this season. The NFL is making a huge mistake by not having the Cowboys - Jets game on 9-11 as planned.

Its a bummer to hear. The players are gonna get screwed in this thing. They should just take what they can get at this point.

If it's written on the interwebz, it must be true especially when it quotes player sources.

Well I'm sure we will hear somebody else with sources who says the complete opposite. Mort has been pretty pessimistic anyways.

It was originally reported by Albert Breer of NFL Network. I don't know whether the bit about the owner's reneging on the deal is solid but it seems like the owners and players aren't seeing eye to eye right now. I'm curious how he's getting his access though.

Brooking was on 103.3 last hour and said he's heard from very good sources that the two sides aren't as close as what's been reported in the media, too.

But he said the truth is probably in the middle, and it's not time to panic yet.

It's getting close to time for all-nighters and no weekends.

Ugh. This is upsetting. A deal seems so tantalizingly close, but it may merely prove to be a mirage.

Wait a second, wasn't there threads that were saying how all this was going to end soon and how a deal will likely come in a week or two?

That's why I don't ever buy any of it, a bunch of BS is what it is.

I look at this as good news. It seems to me that the worst thing for Dallas is for a deal to get done with a salary cap of around $120 million. I'd much rather have them agree to play one more year under last year's rules as they continue to hammer out a deal. I don't for one second think either side will be willing to throw a season away so I think they will at least agree to another season under last year's rules.

It looks like the article is using hyperbole to get readers.

It looks like their version of going "backward" is simply a negotiation on whether the revenue split is after or before sales tax is included.

The 3% revenue reduction (from 48% to 45%) the article mentions would be around the same amount as half of the sales tax on the $9 billion total revenue number.

Don't fall for the crap spewed out by desperate sports writers seeking for more people to read their articles.

The general parameters for an agreement seem to have been reached and now the lawyers are there to work out the final details. It is very common for issues to arise during this process that will have to be negotiated and worked out.
