he got released by Seattle. he is a tackling machine, got the size to play inside. would be expensive but with both carter and lee having had injuries.

releasing brookings could provide some cap space to sign him.

thoughts?

yes. we should totally release our defensive leader so that we can sign someone who hasn't played ILB in a 3-4

I think the colts should pick him up. They always seem to have bad linebackers and they just lost one.

Brooking does not make that much, if Brooking cost was higher I'm sure Dallas would have cut him

At this point it seems like fans just want to sign the biggest name available rather than actually fill a need.

Dallas will have zero interest in him. They have drafted Lee and Carter in the past two drafts and will go with those guys. It should be clear to everyone that Jerry and Stephen fell burned by all the big contracts given out over the past 5-6 years only to have most of those players never live up to the contract. They are still willing to go after a player like NA but not many others who want big money. Its obvious they have decided to try and develop their draft picks with better coaching and fill in the holes with bargain free agents.

I think some believe we have no cap issue and that we can spend whatever amount we like. Everyone else including Stephen has indicated differently yet we are suppose to go out and over pay for guys with money we don't have

Brookings is old and probably won't make through the year.....this has to be a New England moment....get rid of the guy a year early rather than one too late.

We need help at ILB

It is his last season I expect his role to be reduced from the past season and in limited play I think he has a better chance of contributing. In the mean time you get right back to the fact cutting him creates yet another hole that we do not have the means to fill with a FA. Dallas has to get a safety or 2 in here to me that is a must so creating more holes does not help us one bit

When I see his name, it always makes me want to say "I dropped a Lofa Tatupu in my pants."

I tried to tell everyone this BEFORE free agency started.

We were overextended on the cap and would have to go short in some areas to keep it under control. Just because you create cap space by pushing dead money into the next season doesn't mean you can ignore what next season's cap will look like.

Ideally Dallas can avoid a bunch of re-structuring this year and instead simply extend Romo next year freeing up cap space then. We still have to re-sign Ratliff and Witten and if they again play at Pro Bowl/All-Pro levels it will be very costly.

Yep, Stephen knows this as well. We have several top players on this team, we need to plug in some guys who can help especially at the safety spots. These guys do not need to be pro bowl players to contribute they do however have to be steady players who are not going to get you beat. I'm confident we will be able to do this.

Frankly seeing the restraint by the Cowboys is impressive and tells me that maybe they have learned a few lessons over the years

It would be smarter to sign Kirk Morrison then. Cheaper and knows the system.
how does he know the system?

Ryan ran the 4-3 in Oakland not the 3-4 like he will run here.

If HE is our defensive leader...that would epitmomize everything that is WRONG in Dallas. Ware is the highest paid AND best player on the team. Leadesrhip must and should be demanded from him. Or he is just a guy piling up stats.
