all righty!! It is draft week. So first of all a general rule of thumb is ignore any reported rumors of teams liking or disliking this guy or that cause they are all now lying!
looking at our roster, without projecting any possible cuts or FA additions at this time, everybody can agree that immediate help is needed at 3 postions. RT, FS, and DE. There isnt a free safety worthy of the high first round, so RT and DE are the postions where a rookie could be plugged in and give immediate help
DE...candidates appear to be Fairley, Jordan and Watt for us.
I have to believe that Dez Bryant's recent immaturity issues take Fairley off the board for us. I do believe he will be an impact player in the NFL but there will always be "something" going on and in Dallas that is magnified 100 fold. But kids do grow up and mature and his talent is undeniable
So it comes down to Jordan vs Watt. Both players I would love to have.
Jordan appears more versatile in that he could play multiple postions along the line
Watt may be limited athletically or so the reports say but is a high character player that others gravitate to. Would love to have him just for that characteristic
Both are tenacious, hard working high character players who could start from day one
I would love to draft a player like Austin or Aldon Smith, just oozing with untapped potential that could turn out to be all pros down the line, but can we wait for that day?
OT
Smith vs Castanzo
Both would be excellent choices...Castanzo starts from day one but is there a ceiling to his ability? I read...dependable; Day one starter for the next 8-10 years
I wonder how he would compare to Bulaga from last years draft? Bulaga had some rough patches but did a pretty good job at RT for the Pack
Smith on the other hand may become a perennial all pro based on the level of his athletic talent. He is only 20!!!! But what kind of growing pains would there be this coming season or the next. Could the team live with blown assignments or the fact that a 20 year old would at times be overwhelmed by the "men" he would face at DE?
Makes my head spin...but I vote Tyron Smith. We have a chance to draft a player that if he stayed in school barring injury and assuming natural progression, may be a top 5 pick next year.
