in the locker room today. He said it wasn't a ranting tirade, but that he was very angry and there was some kind of sheet players could sign if they wanted to be accountable to their teammates regarding hurting the team with stupid penalties.

He said the players were pretty surprised by it. I guess kind of like when he ripped players for being late at training camp.

Just FYI... Can't say that he's ignoring the penalty situation.

Just play Jimmy's rant on a continuous loop on cctv. That'll do it.

How funny would that have been if Wade had called the team together for a meeting, turned the lights out, and played Jimmy's rant on a big screen? :D

Lol. That is pretty funny. I was hoping to that he'd let them hear it though. But don't forget, he is all about the "team" concept. I remember hearing before the season that he mixed up the names in the locker room and mixed players from offense and defense. No surprise that when Tony Curtis scored Sunday he was on the sideline with Hamlin, Watkins, and 3 or 4 others.

I love it. Wade doesnt get upset too often so it has to register with the players when he does. It will be interesting to see how they respond on the field.

he needed to get on to them. We're never gonna win a Super Bowl with all
those penalties. They can lose a game for you flat out. The Cowboys have got to focus, focus, focus that means to have your head in the game. If ya know ya can't do it don't do it.

I thought Wade didn't coach penalties.

We had penalty issues when BP was here as well. Sooner or later, the players have to quit making penalties.

we were actually pretty good about penalties these last 2 years

I remember last year in a PC, a reporter asked if penalties were a problem and he said that we were one of the least penalized teams

I've never understood the claim that Wade is a good-time laid back coach...

He controls himself in front of the microphone, but if you listen closely you can tell these guys don't get passes like they did with Campo. There is no Deion on this team threatening to call Jerry's extension.

He calls them on the carpet and expects a lot out of them. He treats them as men and doesn't make excuses. He is a player's coach in some respects, but he also is the final authority.

Phillips isn't much different from Johnson. Johnson let his assistant coaches do the coaching and he kicked arse when needed, sometimes publicly. Phillips also lets his assistant coaches coach, but he kicks arse in private.

Wade has something to prove here and he has been labeled a sub-par coach his entire career despite an overall winning record. A winning record is an accomplishment in the NFL. Most of the zealots are giving Parcells credit for this team. Now Parcells certainly upgraded our talent, but he coached basically this same team last year that was winning games by the skin of their teeth (or losing in the same fashion). To Parcells credit, he takes no credit, but that won't stop the media. What remains to be seen is whether or not we have the late season collapses that we have endured. I just don't see it barring major injuries.

Wade has been a HC for 5 full seasons in the NFL. In those 5 full seasons he has a regular season record of 45-35. In Joe Gibbs last 5 full regular seasons he has a record of 44-36. That is not counting this season or it would be 53-36 to 49-40.

My point is that he is a has a fine record as a HC. Hopefully he will have 3 SB notches under his belt much like Gibbs and Johnson (with two) when all is said and done.

Many doubted him when he was hired, but he is over half-way to the finest record any HC of the Dallas Cowboys has ever had. I, for one, hope he gets the record.

Nicely said TB. I also hate that Parcells is getting credit for this team. It seemed at times Parcells couldn't coach his way out a wet paper sack.

Geez... you are exactly right. I should really proofread at times...

I added Johnson down there at the last minute as I didn't want skins fans to hijack the thread thinking I was equivocating Wade to Gibbs... I wasn't. Gibbs is a HoF and deservedly so. I just don't think Wade is given enough credit.

I was merely pointing out that his regular season record is comparable to a great coach.

Wade Phillips aww shucks laid back attitude is partly real and partly an act. He reminds me of my late Grandad, who people always said was dumb like a fox.

People who really know Wade, know that he is one of the most talented and creative defensive coaches in the league.

I hope he sticks around awhile.:toast:

It would have been damn funny, but would have sent the wrong message. Penalties aren't a laughing matter. They can cost you games. If you go back and look at the game, the Giants had several penalties that pretty much took them out of the game. If they hadn't had them, the Giants would have been in the game till the end and could have possibiliy won.

Like the Cowboys/Pats game. Subtract all the Cowboys penalties, (specifically all the 3rd down penalties) and the Cowboys could have easily came out on top.
