I've never understood the claim that Wade is a good-time laid back coach...
He controls himself in front of the microphone, but if you listen closely you can tell these guys don't get passes like they did with Campo. There is no Deion on this team threatening to call Jerry's extension.
He calls them on the carpet and expects a lot out of them. He treats them as men and doesn't make excuses. He is a player's coach in some respects, but he also is the final authority.
Phillips isn't much different from Johnson. Johnson let his assistant coaches do the coaching and he kicked arse when needed, sometimes publicly. Phillips also lets his assistant coaches coach, but he kicks arse in private.
Wade has something to prove here and he has been labeled a sub-par coach his entire career despite an overall winning record. A winning record is an accomplishment in the NFL. Most of the zealots are giving Parcells credit for this team. Now Parcells certainly upgraded our talent, but he coached basically this same team last year that was winning games by the skin of their teeth (or losing in the same fashion). To Parcells credit, he takes no credit, but that won't stop the media. What remains to be seen is whether or not we have the late season collapses that we have endured. I just don't see it barring major injuries.
Wade has been a HC for 5 full seasons in the NFL. In those 5 full seasons he has a regular season record of 45-35. In Joe Gibbs last 5 full regular seasons he has a record of 44-36. That is not counting this season or it would be 53-36 to 49-40.
My point is that he is a has a fine record as a HC. Hopefully he will have 3 SB notches under his belt much like Gibbs and Johnson when all is said and done.
Many doubted him when he was hired, but he is over half-way to the finest record any HC of the Dallas Cowboys has ever had. I, for one, hope he gets the record.
