London Calling: Two Games Under His Belt, Obada Gaining Confidence

OXNARD, Calif. -
There is something about Efe Obada that is just so likeable. Obviously he’s a compatriot of mine so that helps, but there are so many other reasons why everyone who meets him seems to instantly take to him. He doesn’t even try to hide his enthusiasm for the game of American football, and told me about playing at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday night.

“It was amazing. Everything is still so new to me, so I’m loving every bit of it.”

After seeming a little disappointed following the Chargers game, Obada was in great spirits this time around.

“It was a better day. I’m not going to look on the negative side of things, I’m going to take the positives. It’s an amazing experience, I’m enjoying it, I’m happy. I’m in love with the journey. I’m in love with the learning. It’s addictive.”

Other than one play where he failed to recognise a pulling guard and got pinned outside, Obada didn’t seem to have any bad plays. In fact, the majority of his plays were actually very good. On two occasions, he was left unblocked on play-action passes, and both times, he recognised it, closed on the ball, and forced the quarterback to throw away, only a couple of steps away from a sack both times...

I was very impressed with him in the 49ers game.

He played as well or better than several of the rookies out there.

What are the chances he makes the team?

What do the scouting gurus on this site think?

If he's progressing this fast, he's worth a keep on at least PS...

Any of the past years he probably would make it. But this year there is just way too much depth and he's just too raw. Hopefully he goes on the practice squad.

Not claiming to be a "guru" but let us not forget he's an "international player" that the league has mandated can be kept on the PS for 3 years with no danger of being claimed by another team. I'm just really glad to hear he's making good progress. Whether he's able to make the active roster or not this year, I kinda doubt. He's still raw but has great physical attributes and as the article suggests, he's coming along well and has a great attitude.

The guy that wrote this article found out that even though that rule is on the books the league office has denied teams when they asked for that designation. So unfortunately we are SOL on that one.:(

Thanks. Glad to find that out -- seems like the league would want to make it easy for these players to get a break.
Maybe the league views that as a form of favoritism but if it adds talent to the product on the field . . . go figure.
