how could the coaching staff not have had Austin in the lineup sooner. I, and a lot of others could see his talent. Jones paid Crayton a ton of money obviously expecting him to be a starter. Austin did not develop skills only this month. Hurd and Crayton were higher on the depth chart not that long ago.

It also makes me wonder why they cannot see the immense talent Jones has. I would make sure he touched the ball from the line of scrimmage 15-20 times per game. Sure he has had trouble staying healthy but he and Austin are by far the most explosive players on offense. With Ausin and Williams on the outside, Witten in the middle and Jones coming out of the backfield how will the defense defend that?

Maybe he was not ready. Jerry Jones wanted Otree to get more reps a couple of weeks ago and people *****ed about that. Sometimes there is no pleasing people.

If they did not think Austin had the talent they would not have retained him to begin with. I don't think any resonable person would have expect Austin to have the games he did when he was 1st named the starter but the Cowboys did think highly of his ability.

Come on Dooms, mmilliman saw it. In fact I think he predicted 250 yards against the Chiefs. It's all Jerry Jones fault.

IMO, you are missing something. Players change and develop over time.

Austin is doing things now that he wasn't doing before. It is a credit to the coaches that they developed an unheralded raw talent into an important weapon.

It is also true that the coaching staff couldn't decide between Scandrick and Jenkins for a while there. Jenkins is playing great right now, after all. But the deal is that Jenkins wasn't playing great before ... and the two CBs were performing similarly ... perhaps with Scandrick doing a little better. Actually, we ought to consider praising the coaching that Jenkins is getting - because Jenkins is now performing at a top-notch level.

please you are missing the point. Austin has been with the team for a long time now. Clearly long enough to see the talent. Jones is the same type of player but the team is not using him. That is concerning.

I agree and shows you that the coaches know a lot more than what some fans credit them with.

I am sure I am repeating, but he needed time to develop. Just like in a first job, you learn and in few years you are lightyears better than your first day...

Sometimes it take time and patience to develop talent (in the case of Austin).

As for Jones, his position is crowded and he is often the one who is nursing an injury.

Austin has been with us for a while but just as BP did not throw Romo in right away this staff was not going to put Austin in until they felt he was ready for it. One thing we don't see that the coaches do is practice and meetings that is where they see the progress of players on a daily bases. They have no set agenda with these guys they want to put the best they have on the field after all their jobs on the ones on the line.

Crayton didn't get a ton of money, there was this chap called TO that was probably taking a few reps off Austin. Jones is looking like he not sturdy enough to play football right now. Why put more pressure on him for carries when he's trying to get healthy again?

This.

It's the nature of all professional sports. The guy with a higher pedigree gets the benefit of the doubt over the unproven one. This happens on ALL teams. No need to turn this into a "Jerry is a *******" thread.

Are we not the team that saw something in him in the first place? Doesn't that make the other 31 teams idiots for not drafting him?

Every time you turned around Austin has been nicked up the last couple of years... Especially during camp– or so that's what it felt like.

And that's where jobs are typically won. They aren't won during the season. What Austin did in KC, and the change it had on the lineup are the exception– and not the rule.

How did the Pats not see Brady's potential at the beginning of the season? They waited till Bledsoe went down. The Cowboys waited until Bledsoe was god-awful before putting Romo in.

Austin got the chance only because of injury. You guys are acting like he became this great player in the last three weeks and the coaches finally decided he was ready. If it wasn't for the rib injury Austin would likely still be on the bench. Dallas probably loses two or three of the last three games with Austin on the bench.

My second point is that Jones is one of the most dynamic players in the league and he is not getting the ball enough.

I don't think this coaching staff knows how to use talent properly. For the record I posted about Austin and Jones before the pre-season.

you make my point. Bledsoe was god awful for a long time. Romo got in out of necessity. I am not going to criticize Parcells he did a good job of identifying talent and has a great track record.

He was referring to Brady, not Bledsoe.

By your theory, Belichek is doing a poor job as well.

Like I said....this happens to every team in the league.

Off the top of my head, some good players who didn't become good until they got an opportunity thru injury:

Tom Brady
Asante Samuel
Ted Bruschi
Brett Favre
Ben Roethlisberger
Willie Parker
Kevin Boss
Kurt Warner
Steve Slaton

As far as Felix goes, he's been injured so far in his short career and we have two other talented running backs on the team. Look at the success the running game has had this year, averaging over 5 yards a carry. Do you want to take away carries from Choice, averging 4.9 ypc or Barber, averaging 4.6 ypc?
