As much as I like Blue, we don't want him taking too many RB 1 carries. The toll that takes on a speed guy catches up quickly. I want a bigger dude taking those between the tackles carries.

There might not be anyone who knows the new Dallas Cowboys rookie Jaydon Blue better than former Texas Longhorns running back coach Tashard Choice.
After three seasons of being on the same sideline, two former Texas Longhorns will match up opposite of each other this coming fall. When the Dallas Cowboys face off with the Detroit Lions this coming season, Jaydon Blue and Tashard Choice will be on opposite sides.

Yet, although he will not be coaching Blue as he begins his NFL career, Choice did not hold back any secrets during a recent interview with DallasCowboys.com's Tommy Yarrish. Choice gave his NFC foes, the Cowboys, a scouting report on how they should use Blue.

I like Blue. I've watched every snap he's taken at Texas and even saw him play one game for Klein Cain. Blue isn't a #1 RB type and I don't he'll ever be. I also don't think that's what Dallas expects out of him. You can watch every snap he's taken and count on one hand the # of snaps he runs between the tackles. Texas didn't use him that way and I don't think Dallas will either.

I see him as the competing for the #3 back with Deuce and that won't be an easy win. While Deuce has done virtually nothing in the NFL, neither has Blue and Vaughn was a far superior college back. Deuce had 3,604 rushing yards and 1,280 receiving at K State vs. Blue's 1,162 rushing and 503 receiving at Texas. Much of that had to do with who Blue had playing in front of him and snap count, but it's there.

Also keep in mind that the Cowboys new offensive line coach Conor Riley recruited Vaughn and coached him for 3 years, so there's some familiarity there. I think Blue is probably a better pass catcher, has a little better size, and obviously dangerous speed. He also has tiny hands and 8 career fumbles. Vaugh has far better contact balance and is no slouch at catching the football. He's got bigger hands than Blue and only 2 career fumbles. But you just can't get around how small he is.

The running back competition in camp is the one I most look forward to. We've got no idea who the 1, 2, or 3 are at this point and I'm fearful we've got nothing but a bunch of 4s.

Darren Sproles, who played for 15 years and 3 different teams in the NFL, was shorter (5'6") in height but had the same hand size (8.25") as Jaydon Blue has. Yet, Darren Sproles only had 6 career fumbles throughout his 15 year career, so his small hand size clearly was not a problem for securing the football. The same can happen for Jaydon. All he needs is to practice a better form of securing the football, and he should be fine.

This part. McCarthy didn't know what the h e l l he was doing, and it's organizational malpractice for them to have had Zeke stealing carries from better players all in the name of nostalgia.

Duece should certainly have a better staff to put him in a better position now, but I just don't see a way he makes the 53. Duece is a very good receiver, shifty runner, and he's a return man, basically, Turpin insurance.

Question: Is Duece a better inside runner than Blue? If so, does it even matter from a making the roster perspective?

Don't be a moron. Nowhere did I endorse Deuce Vaughn or even suggest he's an NFL caliber player. But you guys who are already rubbing Blue down with the anointing lube are comical. Hell he even grew to 6' 200lbs in this thread. He's a 5'9 195lb speed back that will be jet sweep Jaydon IF he can even unseat Vaughn. 148 players and 13 running backs were taken in front of Blue for a very good reason.

I'm already reaching prematurely, but i wouldnt be surprised if Blue ends up being our RB1 at early to mid point of the season.
he's already our most talented and explosive RB on the current roster.

- It'll be about how early he can make a big impression on the staff, and create plays in both run/pass game.

- i'd liked to spell & pace Blue in a similar role to Lions Jaymr Gibbs as RB2 to David Montgomery, in bringing him off the bench, scheme him properly but also
be careful not wear/tear him down.

- and please don't let this new coaching staff be like the 2023 coaches that decided to use Pollard like a in-between tackles/bell cow, RB.

We will see Blue in the slot and Williams or Mafah on the field in spots too

Yeah the team had him listed as 6', but i believe his combine measurement was 5'9".

RB is the easiest position to transition to in the NFL by far.

We’ll know pretty quick if he’s going to be a good player.

Transition to the nfl and have some success and being Gibbs are 2 entirely different things

I love the Jahmyr Gibbs comparisons, but that’s pretty high praise. I’m not saying we should pump the brakes, but we do need to recognize the offense Gibbs is on. The lions had the 2nd best passing offense, which allows their RBs more space to operate. In large part, their OL and WRs contributed tremendously. Not to mention..Gibbs’s counterpart, David Montgomery, is a load of a RB himself. All these things only help to enhance Jahmyr’s natural abilities and performance.

Point: Will Dallas have the prolific passing attack to allow Blue to work his magic? Is the OL really improved, or stagnant? Do we have that hammer of a RB, like Montgomery? I’m not convinced ab any of this. So even though I may like the comparison, it will be very difficult for Blue to come close to the Gibbs comparison.

Devils advocate: now if you told me Dak was going to stay healthy all year; the OL was top 5; obviously Lamb vs St Brown is a wash; yet Mingo production mirrors Jameson Williams; Ferguson is the next LaPorta; and our other drafted RD, Phil Mafah, is the next David Montgomery.. well now, don’t tease me with a good time. I’d be all on board with the Blue/Gibbs comparisons
