Last year, the only player I would have considered drafting from UT was Chris Whaley. I was not fond of any of the other prospects.

This year is different story, however. I am very stoked about a handful of prospects.

DT Malcom Brown is a beast in the middle. Not only is he stout against the run, but he definitely brings pressure in the passing game. He is my favorite DT prospect.

DE Cedric Reed started slow this year, but has really picked it up as of late. He had a great game against WVU, was very disruptive. He is definitely my favorite DE prospect.

ILB Steve Edmonds is not a top round prospect, but he is a very good LB. He can play both the run and pass, is a good tackler, and seems to have a nose for the ball. I would love to use a late round pick on him for depth. He is my favorite late round LB prospect.

CB Quandre Diggs - he is definitely confident and plays with physicality. He can be beaten, but can also step up and make big plays in important moments. I love the hit he had on the starting TT QB, vicious. There are other CBs I would take ahead of him, but he is definitely worth a late round pick. Unlike past starting CBs like Vasher and Ross, Diggs does not return kicks, which hurts his stock in my eyes.

RB - Malcolm Brown. He has good vision, runs with power, runs N/S instead of E/W. He is a good, not great blocker in passing situations. Because of some injuries and splitting carries with two other backs his whole college career, he has a lot of tread on his tires. He would be a great mid-round pick for us.

If I could only have one of these players, I take Cedric Reed. We need players who can get to the QB better, and that is Cedric.

I thought Reed would be a 1st rounder for sure but the slow start this season may have pushed him into the 2nd-3rd round...which is good for us because he'll be in our range. He has the size to play strongside DE too. I also like Jaxon Shipley. I'd like to see how good he can be with a good QB. Maybe a potential Dwayne Harris replacement...could be a steal

Austin American-Statesman columnist Kirk Bohls tweeted that Texas junior DT Malcom Brown said that a "first or second round draft grade" would probably lead him to declare for the NFL.
Last week, TFY Draft Insider's Tony Paulinereported that Brown was leaning toward the draft. Brown's own comment seems to indicate likewise. Unlike many college players, Brown is married and has two children. The financial lure of a high draft slot is significant in this case. Brown weighs in at 6-foot-4, 320 pounds and the junior has a sideline-to-sideline motor. CBS Sports' Rob Rang wrote in mid-October that Brown had "noticeably improved upper-body explosiveness." It remains to be seen if he's improved enough to earn him the grade he's looking for. Nov 11 - 9:07 PM

Malcolm Brown is obviously the best prospect, and he might actually be available when we select in the first round. I think he's rated as a late 1st-early 2nd rounder right now, but if he continues to play like he has been, I could easily see him working his way up to mid-1st with good workouts.

Cedric Reed I like too, Nothing really flashy about him, just a big, solid overall DE who can be disruptive and plays the run equally well as the pass. Wouldn't mind him at all in the 2nd.

I think Quandre Diggs is a little overrated personally. He gets beat quite a bit for my liking, but maybe as a later round pick he could develop into a steal.

Malcolm Brown is another guy who isn't really flashy or anything, just a solid, hard-nosed football player who works hard. I see him as a later round pick because of his lack of pure speed. Could be a good between-the-tackles RB at the net level though.

Always happy to draft Longhorns though. Hook 'em \m/

I agree. Its been awhile since there has been alot of UT players to get excited about. I think this class could quietly find itself in the league for a long time. Love picking up diggs and jaxon late. I think DT Brown is gonna end up late 1st/2nd round guy. Yet to be sold on Reed though.

Depending on what happens with Hicks and his request for another year, he could be an interesting LB prospect.
