was just passing through the depth chart and just seemed odd to me the difference between the projected starters and 2nd string.

Most teams fall quite a bit between but i actually don't think there is much difference between them. yes, there is a few moving parts..Church and melton but, if we get something out of Spencer and D-law this season...not a whole lot of. difference.

Now, i understand the talent level but if Dallas can rotate ok talent more because they have more of them.. i think just may be enough to upset some folks.

i know it would have to be perfect but, look at this on paper and digest it.

I'll take a bunch of average to above average guys vs. one or two great players and a bunch of scrubs. You get much more consistent production.

That is a great idea when you have a bunch of average to above average players. I think we are okay in that regard in the secondary and possibly linebacker.

The DL is a train wreck right now unless somebody somehow emerges and is better than everyone thinks they are.

I wish there were more roster spots. I think some of the young guys will be good by the end of the season, but I'm not sure which ones.

There's probably only 1 spot available for Wilson, Bush, Rayford, Gardner, etc..

They're all average. Your expectations are way too high.

Who should they go get then?

It's not about going and getting anybody now. It's August. It's about drafting better on a consistent basis to strengthen your roster and making the salary cap more manageable.

Our depth is poor because we waste picks on slop like Anthony Hitchens and Matt Johnson.

Compare the DL to the WR group. Big difference.

I said it in another thread, hopefully some DL steps up soon. If not, this is a group not much different than the group we peddled out there last season. In fact worse because there is not even the pretense of having a perennial All Pro in Ware drawing attention.

Any appearance of quality depth throughout the roster is a mirage created by a lack of talent with the starters. Making the drop off appear minimal.
That is kinda true...you just stated it wrong. Dallas has great quality Depth..i would take them all day long. so, no Mirage...the starters are just below NFL starting standards..sorry melton. We have a group of one ( and a buch of 5-6.5S on a 1-10.

I still think it could work "If" "Fresh legs" ===others 9's and 4's Hell,i gota try.....

I think the past few years have been pretty damn good drafts. Sorry. The Cowboys had no idea that Matt Johnson was going to be injured all the time and we haven't even seen Hitchens play a real snap yet.

The DL is awful. We've got good, injured players with upside (Melton, Spencer) who could return to form. We've got young players with a lot of potential coming off injuries (Lawrence, Crawford), journeymen (Mincey, McClain) young role players we're developing who haven't proven anything yet (Wilson, Bass) and rookies (Gardener, Coleman, Bishop). That's a dog's breakfast, any way you cut it. Even in a best-case scenario, too many low-probability things need to happen for us to get to decent.

And I'm not sure our LB corps is going to be any better.

There's a reason why we're hoping for mediocre from defense to get a shot at the post season. It's because we've got one of the weakest front-7s in football. It is what it is. I hope people step up. I think some probably will. I like Lawrence and Crawford and Coleman to do so, in particular. We still lack explosive players and game changers up-front. We might as well be honest about it.

I'll split the difference with you two. I think we've got below average starters and average depth. We just have a lot of it. But, by the time the season rolls around, we'll have the same amount as most other teams since we aren't going to keep 15 average players on the roster.

I am revising my prediction of going from 32nd to 25th in overall defense to...from 32nd to 29th.

ok..fair enough...roll the dice. if it's a four we go...6-10to 8-8 ..if its a six we go 9-7 to 10-6. kinda exciting...no?

hey man..that's "progress" ...it would take the best luck..nt gonna lie. but, as you rest for the day. remember...this offense anint half bad. so, Dallas is half way there. If the other side way as strong...we would invent a new term for cocky....lol

So in translation.....you hate this team, and nothing is ever good enough to try to improve, you give no chance to see how they will play or improve....not one chance to see...
