  • Can make the blocker have to play flat along the line with him. Is very active in the way that he plays the game. It was rare to see him in one position or on the ground. Thought he played with nice balance and power when he had to deal with blockers one-on-one.
  • Where he got in trouble is when he played as the one, then he had to deal with double teams. It was harder for him to get off the blocks and be active on the play. His best shot at winning on the pass rush is on his first move up the field. If he gets stopped or stuck, then he is not going to be of any good to the scheme. When he can attack that outside shoulder of the guard, he has a chance. I like what he is able to do with his hands. They appear quick and they are always working. His best move was the quick, arm under that would get in going on his rush.

Do you see any room for Okoye here? I just don't see it. We seem to be stacked at 3-tech. Crawford is the starter and Melton gets a lot of snaps too. Also, McClain plays both 3-tech and 1-tech. It seems that Okoye is more of a liability at 1-tech. I think we want our 4th DT to be someone who can play both positions. The only way I see there being room for Okoye is if we move Crawford back to SDE, make Melton the starting 3-tech, and make Okoye the backup 3-tech (basically give Crawford's current job to Melton and Melton's current job to Okoye). But I don't see them moving Crawford back to DE.

I think Crawford's play at the 3 tech may make Okoye the odd man out. I would still like to get a look at him.

Not this season unless there are some injuries. As a guy on the NFI, they could keep him inactive up until week 14. He's good insurance in case of injuries.

I think the problems with your arguments is in thinking we'll definitely keep to an 8 man rotation. The reality is we were actually already a 10 man defensive line, with Coleman and Bishop being inactive depending on the week.

Bishop has been cut, but the idea that we won't carry 9-10 defensive linemen moving forward doesn't necessarily jive.

I also think that Okoye will have more of a chance being the 3rd DT, with Crawford and Melton playing more 1 behind Brent and/McClain.

I could easily see us taking 5 defensive tackles on game day as opposed to 4.

Former #1 blue chip talent like Ro McClain. And familiar with Marinelli's scheme. We still have time, no need to rush to judgement just yet. Okoye is likely another year away from being completely healthy or effective anyway. Brent is a long shot too IMO.

Jack Crawford and Lavar Edwards are expendable. Cut one for Lawrence the other for Okoye or Brent, whichever late addition they thinks helps better for the stretch run.
