Smart teams plan ahead in free agency. High dollar positions like QB, DE, CB, WR and OT cost you a fortune to keep. Good teams who stay relevant (New England-cough) move on from high priced guys and make due with a replacement more often than not.

Dak--- Everyone HOPES Dak is the answer is QB. But that's a small portion of the formula. You have to decide NOW if Dak is going to be worth $30 million in two years or not. If you think the answer is no you should be looking for a guy who can replace him for a fraction of that. Otherwise you end up with a Dez contract.

Guard--If you draft Wynn, Hernandez, or Price and they do OK this year you could save a TON of cap room next year by trading Martin to another team and probably get at least a 1st round pick out of him in the trade. You replace the player, save cap and get a draft pick in return plus you get to use Martin this year.

Tackle/Swing tackle. If you draft a guy high at tackle you could bump Collins inside and start the draft pick. It is great insurance for Tyron's back, it solves the swing tackle issue and gives a lot of options going forward.

Tapper---The forgotten player. Was rumored to have hammered down a starting spot prior to injury. Some will scoff at that, but Lawrence was in a similar boat before his breakout year. You could rent tank for a year and either draft a player, or if Tapper develops you could move on from Lawrence and get a first rounder out of him.

None of these are must have situations, but keep in mind we did it with Romo. Tank and Martin are not more critical than Romo was to us. If we can move on from Romo, then it could happen with these two as well.
