Looking at McClellin?

Tony Pauline thinks we're giving McClellin a look as an ILB. I feel like he'd be perfect at SOLB personally.

Might be the only time I have heard McClellin's name and ILB associated together.

Not me I have read and heard from scouts that I know that McClellin is on every teams board because they feel he can play 4-3 DE, 3-4 and 4-3 OLB, and 3-4 ILB.

I wouldn't want to draft McClellin as a 3-4 ILB due to having Lee, Connor, and drafting Carter. I would draft him in the late 1st early 2nd as a 3-4 SOLB. I think he can do it all. Not a great pass rusher but he can get 8-12 a year which is all we need.

Dallas has him as a target in a trade back situation or if he falls in to the early 2nd. Most think there is no way he gets past the late 1st with GB, Baltimore, and NE.

Agreed on all counts. I think he's a bonafide replacement for Spencer, and a very good one at that. This year, he can be used to blitz from the ILB position or rush in the nickel with a hand on the ground. One of the most versatile players in this draft.

Very interesting.

I'd put him as a sleeper 1st round pick for us.

I'd guess one of our trade down targets. Along with Glenn and Kirkpatrick.

McClellin is the poor man's Ingram. He can do quite a lot and is scheme diverse.

Maybe not a perfect fit at any one position but an excellent all-around talent who can cover a bit, rush a good bit and generally play hard-nosed football.

I think we'll see Ryan's imprint this year and if we do these types of guys become valuable to us IMHO.

For us he could be an ILB on short yardage areas. A pass rusher on 3rd downs and moved around on 1st down as the back up to either/or Ware/Spencer.

That type moving around allows you to find match ups in the first three quarters you can consistently win in the 4th. And we need this defense to grow some teeth late.

If I had a pet cat in this draft, he'd be it, but NOT at ILB. If we say put at 14, and he's not drafted in the first, I'd love to move up in the 2nd and snag him, but it seems unlikely.

8-12 sacks a year is a great pass rusher! Why does everyone think we have to have a D. Ware on the strong side? It ain't gonna happen. SOLB's don't get 20 sacks a year.

Didn't Pauline say we were absolutely in love with Poe?

If this is even remotely true, it's pretty damning evidence on Bruce Carter.

???

I don't get what Poe has to do with Carter. Am I missing something?

If the Cowboys were looking at McClellean at ILB it would look pretty bad for Carter.

I think he's saying McLellin would be an ILB, which would a horrible waste and miscasting.

I am thinking the whole Carter to ILB isnt set in stone.

OK, now I get it. I wasn't following the entire conversation close enough to disassociate the two sentences.

- Fast rising Shea McClellin of Boise State is getting a lot of consideration at middle/inside linebacker by a number of teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, who we reported last week will explore trading down from the 14th spot. McClellin showed at the Senior Bowl he could quickly adjust to a number of traditional linebacker spots. McLellin continues to move north on draft boards. We were told one franchise tried to squeeze him in for a last minute visit but there was no room on the schedule.

RT @evansilva: "Several sources" tell Tony Pauline the #Eagles trade-up target would be Fletcher Cox in top 10, not Ryan Tannehill:

That's funny. Who thought they'd pay a fortune to trade up for Tannehill with the contract Vick has?

For the record, I want this guy and DeCastro. Decastro in the 1st and McClellin in the 2nd. It probably won't happen though. Both of them might not make it to when we pick.

You could instead trade back from #14 to the late 20s and still got McClellin and probably get a 2nd and 3rd rounder in the process.

Now you can use 1 second rounder to draft Silatolu.

Now you have McClellin and Silatolu and still have one second rounder and two third rounders. I can take that second rounder and get a CB like Casey Heyward or Brandon Boykin. I can use those 3rd rounders to get Jared Crick and Ryan Broyles.

Doing it your way we probably get DeCastro and McClellin but lose our third rounder trading up.

So ask yourself what is better:

DeCastro vs. Silatolu/Heyward/Crick/Broyles

I'd take that second set of players any day of the week.
