Looking at the kicking situation

Dallas sure picked a lousy year to have two kickers performing well in camp.

With Grammatica's increased length in KOs, it's almost pointless to have Folk take up a roster spot if Grammatica wins the position battle so the loser will have to be either cut or dealt.

That's where the problem arises. The only teams that are struggling with their kicking game aren't exactly playoff contenders so the likelihood of getting a late round pick for the loser doesn't seem good. Tampa, Washington and Kansas City come to mind and they may have their eyes on Andrus in Indianapolis when he's cut or even the loser of Rayner/Crosby in Green Bay.

Although I'd never wish an injury on anyone, the best case scenario for Dallas is to wait until the last minute and hope that a serious contender suffers an injury to their kicker in the final two preseason games and may be willing to give up a sixth or seventh for a somewhat proven commodity like Grammatica.

I vote for keeping them both, at least for awhile. See how the chosen one performs in games.

There may be more valuable uses for the roster spot and I admit I have not looked at the ramifications of this. It has just been a LOOOOOOOONG time since Dallas went into the season with a kicker I trusted. It appears we have two.

Wow-to me, it's been YEARS since we've had this luxury.

When Parcells was here, he couldn't find a decent kicker even if it meant to save his own life. Heck-firing Steven Hoffman all but put a nail in our '05 coffin.

We can't afford to keep two kickers on the roster. I was impressed with that 52 yard field goal by folk, but i just can't get that 47 yard field that Martin drilled in giant stadium out of my mind. The pressure was on and he nailed it.

At the end of the day the worst case scenario is we have to cut a street free agent or a 6th round pick. When that is the worst of our problems then i can live with that.

Don't we have a practice squad though? If I remember correctly 2 years ago, when we had Cortez/Cundiff, Suisham was on the practice squad.

Folk will never clear waivers so the PS is not possible.

Gramatica isn't illegible for the PS.

Folk would have to clear waivers to be put on it, and even by some miracle he made it to the PS, any team can sign him to their 53 active roster any time they want.

Folks, unless something strange happens, you can take this to the bank: Folk will never be put out there for another team to grab. Unless he suddenly loses his accuracy and power, Dallas won't allow anyone to steal their big leg that they drafted.

Folk will be on the team. The only questions is whether or not Gramatica will be there with him.

I have to agree with this assessment. If hes cheaper and performs as good or better than Grammatica then he wins.

When you say we can't afford to keep two, what would we have to give up?

My guess is the 3rd string QB goes to the PS and we go with Romo and Johnson as the only QBs on the roster and have an emergency QB in Crayton or Stanbeck.

As I said in my first post, I haven't looked at what we would have to give up. I'm not trying to argue, just asking for info on what we'd have to sneak to the PS to keep 2 PKs.

Judging by most 53 man projections, Dallas would have to make a decision on cutting one of the last WRs such as Austin, cutting someone from the secondary like Brown or Thomas or losing out on OL depth like Marten. And that's with Moore already going to the practice squad.

Dallas has too much talent (a great problem to have) to keep two almost identical kickers. My hope is that Dallas can somehow get a late second day pick for one.

Marten could whiff on block after block and still make the team this year

Im hoping they go with Folk. They used a draft pick on him for a reason and hes done nothing but make kicks since he got here.

FOLK IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE PPL. He's been performing to good in camp and is a young prospect. There was another post today wit Ireland telling someone he would never clear waivers so to me that's an indication they don't wanna lose him. A previous poster hit the head on the nail its a matter of what we decide to do wit Grammatica. New England is the perfect example of this situation. They loved grammy when he was in their camp but it came down to long term solution and economics wit their young kicker they drafted. We'll be shooting ourselves if we let folk go like we did bryant (even tho bryant was do 2 injury)

Love the Spark that Grammy has, but we have to go with Folk, that 52 yarder against Denver sealed the deal in my eyes.

If it's close we have to go with the younger kicker.

Grammy and those old vet types are all out there if we need a plan B

I am not sure what you people are afraid of in going with the rookie... sometime or another Folk will have to prove he can do it...

you talk about gaining experience well how the heck can Folk do it if you have someone else kicking...

If he didn't have the accuracy he does you could make a case for keeping Grammy or if he didn't have the distance he does again you could make a case for Grammy but as it is at this moment he is more accurate than Grammy and while he is a yard or two shorter in distance they are higher with more hangtime allowing better coverage...I don't even see it as a competition anymore baring something catastrophic Folk is your new kicker

Wade has said that he wants to keep the best football players, so if he considers the 2nd kicker (whomever that may be) better than the 5th safety, then we'd keep the kicker.

Personally, I hope this is the case. After so long without a good kicker, now we have two. Let's be selfish and lock up the kicking game for sure.

With our luck, if we made the choice and went to one...well...let's not jinx it by speculating on what could happen, but you all know where I'm going with that!
