How many of us:

a) Knew how lucky we really were to watch them,

b) Knew that E. Smith had a chance to break "Sweetness'" record,

c) Were in the Beurlein or Walsh camp 'cause Aikman never seemed to win early on,

d) Really appreciated what "The Playmaker" did on the field,

and e) Realized that we saw three (3) Hall of Famers in the making.

Congrats E...(I'm still bitter he never had to show up for our Sports Morals and Ethics class (ironic) with Dr. Carradine when he came back to U.F. to graduate yet the whole damn baseball team had to EVERY SINGLE DAY...jeez)...:D

Not only that, but the extreme luck in getting all 3 of them to begin with.

I knew about how lucky we were to get Irvin and Aikman, but had forgot that in 1990, that was the first year that college Juniors were eligible for the draft. If it werent for that, Emmitt wouldnt have come out until the following yr and we probably wouldnt have got him.

And then the fact that we drafted each of them with our 1st rd pick in CONSECUTIVE seasons. Amazing.

But I was never one in the Walsh or Buerlien camp as fyi.

I just remember my SI cover with Aikman and Rodney Peete on the front and hoping with got Aikman...never a thought in my mind he wouldn't pan out even though I was only in 7th grade...I thought 1st picks had to be great...little did I know...

I know I didn't quite comprehend what we had at the time, even as we won SB after SB. It's odd, actually.

Now, I find myself wishing I had those days back. That's the era I grew up in and it was amazing.

I'm actually a little bit sad today, knowing that is pretty much the conclusion of that era. It's the exclamation point on it all.

Edit: Now I have to try and embrace what we have today, because I don't want to be saying the same things again 15 years from now.

Before the 'triplets' were born, I thought about a dominant quarterback or a strong runner. They ushered in an elevated way to appraise and follow an offense.

I really didn't start following the Cowboys as a real fan until they started their Super Bowl runs ( I was in my teens at the time and didn't have sports friends or family members around me) so I didn't know how special these guys were. Only until 1998 and beyond is when it all started to hit me. The 200s REALLLLLY is where it hit me...ouch. Not a good decade.
