Looking back on it, we're lucky Folk missed that kick

Seriously looking back on it, I'm glad Folk missed that kick, because I would rather him miss a crucial kick in a game where we ended up winning, instead of missing the game-winning FG against Philly in the playoffs for example.

There was and is obviously something wrong with Folk, and who knows maybe next season he'll compete with Suisham and Buehler in training camp, but for the time being, it's a good thing he missed that kick because he does NOT give us the best chance to win. Thoughts?

I think the injury just screwed up his mechanics, which in turn messed up his confidence.

I bet Folk is in the league next year doing well, be it here or somewhere else. If Suisham can keep getting opportunities over and over certainly Folk can.

I think so too. I think the Cowboys were frustrated that Folk had the surgery so late in the offseason which didn't give Folk an opportunity to rehab post-op. He kinda messed it up for himself but I hope he gets an opportunity with us next year if he's 100%.

I agree with the OP here..You also made me think of another possible good thing that came out of it.

With the Game essentially on the line, the Dallas defense came up with another (skins game) stand to seal the deal. Maybe we are finally improving in that area. If you ask me, that was one of our biggest weaknesses. Unlike the Skins game, the defense had a major challenge ahead of itself, considering we were facing the Saints offense and they were just starting to click as well in that 4th qtr. I don't consider stopping the Skins offense much of a challenge lol.

No doubt. This defense has come a long way since week 2 against the Giants when we let them march down the field for the GW field goal. Not that I like to think about this game, but the game against the Saints reminded me of the Patriots/Giants Super Bowl when the pass-rush just took over that last drive. If it wasn't for a couple great rushes, Brees had WR's open where Hamlin bit on a double move and Newman let Meachem get behind him. Our front four just took over the game and won it for us.

um what if mr.sushi misses that game winning kick in the playoffs. missing important kicks is the reason why he was cut just a few weeks ago

The Cowboys will likely let Nick Folk go home for now, get his mind right, practice, and then come back to camp next year to give it another shot.

Getting him out of Dallas was a need. FGs don't need to be an adventure.

We cut Folk. He's free to sign with any other team he wants. There's no guarantee he wants to come back to the Cowboys unless JJ made it clear to him we really want him back next year & if he makes the team in 2010, we'll resume his old salary or some kind to inducement to get him to at least give us a tryout.

This is just me wondering. Do you think what got into his head had anything to do with there being another Kicker? Let's face it, with Buehler kicking off if he were to become a FG option, Folk is immediately expendable. I think he worried about that too much and couldn't beat the yips.

I would have much rather he made it, you can't predict that Suisham or he would make anything in the future. But maybe going 2 for 2 in a huge game would have been enough for him to get his confidence back.

It's def. a possibility. I don't know though, look at Folk his rookie year. It looked like nothing bothered him. Right before the Buffalo kick, he seemed so cool, calm and collected. I remember in the post-game interview he basically just said it was like any other kick; the guy didn't sound nervous at all. Maybe Buehler did change his mindset, but man he seemed untouchable his rookie year.

I don't really think he was worried about Buehler if he saw in practice what we saw when they opened competition between the two, which is to say Buehler is terrible at anything but kickoffs.

I think the injury probably just affected him more than he was willing to let on, and true, it's possible fear of losing his job to Buehler may have had something to do with that but he had been fantastic here the first two years, he had to know we loved him enough as a field goal guy to bring in another player on the 53 to take care of what he couldn't do instead of just getting rid of him all together.

There was nothing "good" about him missing that kick. He makes it, we go up 2 scores & make it even harder for a Saints comeback & we put a bigger stamp on that statement game.
As for the Playoffs, Folk should have been cut like 7 weeks ago & even by making that FG could have still ended up being cut.

Speaking of Buehler. How well did Suishem kick off this season, and seasons past? If he pans out, does the team carry two kickers again? Just wondering. :starspin

I'm trying to say that the Cowboys were delaying the inevitable. So it was a good thing he missed a crucial kick where we WON the game anyway. Lets say Folk's kick hits the right upright like it did, but bounced in and the FG was good. Folk is most likely not cut and continues to be our kicker. And who knows, maybe he costs us the Washington or Philly game. I know it's all hypothetical but you're right, Folk should have been cut weeks ago, but Dallas gave him the benefit of the doubt because he was a Pro Bowler and all.

You have questioned the importance of The Buehler to this team. Now run and hide.

Na ah.. I just asked a question. I love all cowboys while they wear the Star. Once they leave, I don't remember them, unless they retire a Cowboy:bow:

I wonder how everyone would feel if the Saints scored and forced OT and Folk nails the game winning FG?
