Looking closer at McFadden

McFadden isn't making this team if Randle, Williams and Dunbar are all healthy at the time of final cuts.

I like McFadden. I think he has something left and could do well here. There just isn't room. I cant cut any of the above guys in favor of him and I cant keep four RBs.
Just curious, did you come to this conclusion after watching McFadden in games last year? If so, what did you see that you didn't like?

As a team, I don't think our rushing avg per carry goes down. All of them will be effective. No doubt in my mind.

When did I say Sean Lee is finished? Please quote me.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. Did I say I was quoting you? I was referring to the post below:

IMO his career is over

Your replies did cause me to infer your approbation, but I wasn't quoting you.

He hasn't finished a season since before his junior year of college.

No one denies how good he is on the field, when he actually makes it. The most relevant stat is this one, IMO:

He's played in 17 games in the last 3 seasons.

Then again, maybe the thought that there may really be vampires in Santa Carla has be worried.

This will never be a Randle vs 2014 Murray or McFadden vs 2014 Murray deal. That's simply not realistic given the historic year Murray had. All Dallas is looking for is a combination of 2 RBs, likely Randle/McFadden to produce somewhere around 1700-1900 yards rushing. Using both players and keeping them relatively "fresh", there is a strong likelihood they can achieve this goal in this current offensive system. If so, it's a huge win for the organization.

Why isn't it realistic to expect a similar or better year from RB corps or new bellcow? The OL should be even better than last season with a year under their belt, return of Free plus the young new editions. I never understand the scale back your expectations crowd. All things being equal, this unit should be just as successful if not more successful.

As a business man, I don't budget less profit for the following year unless I know that there was something that occurred in prior year that will not occur in upcoming year. You actually forecast to improve.

Combined, yes. Expecting either Randle OR McFadden to individually break Murray's single season record is not realistic IMO. 1. The team likely won't give one player the number of carries again required to amass that number of yards. 2. If the team did give either player that number of carries, the player would probably get injured. Murray's season was an anomaly. There's a reason why the number of carries and yards broke records.

You said combo should get 1700-1900 yards, that's less than what Murray and Randle combined for last season. My expectations are higher for 2015.

I believe the 3rd RB, whoever it may be, will be more involved this year as well. So if I had to predict I'd say Randle at 1150 McFadden at 750 and Williams/Dunbar at 300-350. Ultimately the overall production will be nearly identical give or take 100 yards which is minimal over a 16 game season.

2300 vs 1900 is not a minimal difference. Murray alone almost accounted for your top number of 1900.

????

My first quote I was talking about ONLY McFadden and Randle, since they are the 2 guys who are widely being individually compared to Murray and his 2014 season. When discussing the OVERALL production of the running game, as I mentioned above I believe the TOTAL numbers will be very similar due to the 3rd RB having a larger role than last year. 2300 or so which is pretty much what we got last year +/- whatever yardage Romo adds scrambling.

The biggest question is why did McFadden lose his job to another runner?

I'm not really sure but sometimes a team will pull a player when things are not going well, even though it is not the players fault things are not going well.

That is the only real thing I fear about the football season getting started again. The instant evaluations of whoever is getting the carries is going to be almost as unbearable as the entire AP saga. I can guarantee you there will be multiple threads about this immediately after that game. I'm already predicting a mega-merge thread. And it won't stop there. It will continue every day for several months likely well into next off season even if we win the Super Bowl. The Cowboys have definately opened the door for the second guessers, naysayers and the I told you so crowds. Get your popcorn ready.

In the two games against the New York Giants......................Murray had 249 yards on 52 carries.......................almost 4.8 YPC (despite leaving meat on the bone).

If McFadden, Randle, or whoever struggles against the G-men, then the criticism they and the team gets is fair..................and if you want to say those games were not the opener, well against the 49ers Murray had 5.4 average.

Murray didn't need warm up games, he was ready to go when the ball was kicked off.....................our current group of RBs will be held to the same standard.

You are assuming the Giants will play the same defense us as they did last year. I'm guessing most teams we play this year realize we serious about rushing the ball first and the Giants will be painfully aware of that and will be spending a lot of time trying to figure out how to slow our running game down. I get what you are saying but I'm not sure I can agree that will be an equal test. FWIT I did get a chuckle from the meat on the bone comment.

McFadden is our Sam Bradford. High first round pick, lots of talent, injury issues, some signs of success in the NFL, lots of struggles on a bad team.

Next time an Eagles fan laughs at you for claiming we were dumb for going with McFadden, remind them they have their own version of McFadden playing QB for them.
