I used to only buy Samsung TVs, but in 2015 Samsung lowered the quality of their components. Heed that warning.

I currently own a Sony 4k and am very happy with it.

Vizio P series is dynamite, CNET loves it. I have a 70, sound sucks but that's where the home theatre comes in.

I feel like I'm in the Stone Age with my modest 42 inch plasma from 12 years ago...
It just still works and I don't watch TV enough to justify the expenditure yet.

Honestly, that plasma should have burnt out 2 years ago...

I'm rocking not one but two 22 inch Sony HD Ready flat screens from ancient times. I even approached Sony about buying a third one just a few years ago, LOL.

Whatever you decide on, make sure you, at least, get a sound bar. The sound is limited on these flat or curved screen TV's. These sound bars are great. I have two Samsung's that I've had for a long time and they can crank out the sound.

I've got a 50 Plasma that I have had for many years that I use as a TV for treadmilling. I find the sound is even better if I don't turn the treadmill on. Still has a great pic but ya gotta be positioned correctly to get the full effect.

Got a 65 Samsung SUHD a couple of years ago and really like it but just as I've moved up the scale with every TV, I am coveting an even larger one now because I sit further back form the unit. Fortunately, I was already squinting when I watch porn.

Depending on how your room is set up, get as large a screen as you can afford. Size matters.

You Amish? That radio a transistor?

I guess you made the ultimate protest when Happy Days went off the air? Whhhhhhoooooooaaaaaa, Fonzy gone so am I.

I have a friend that has not had a TV for as long as you and she spends her time reading, listening to and playing music. We all get together and some TV show comes up for discussion, she is lost. But then she can speak about all of the great books, always books she can hold not a Kindle, that have been out and leave most of us behind. She will get an immediate release and read it within 2 days and has at least 3 books going at once in different categories, always 2 non-fictions and often with opposing viewpoints and no one, and I mean no one, will debate politics with her because of her stored knowledge that she can access on a dime. She has her own very well informed opinions and is not manipulated by the media as most of us are and do not want to admit it.

If its a plasma and lasts forever, its a panasonic.

If its done within 5 years, its a LG

If its done within 2 years, its a samsung
My plasma is Panasonic and as good as it was when I first bought it in 2001, however, it doesn't have a lot of hours on it. The Geek Squad guy that came to install my Samsung tried to buy the plasma from me. He said no better TV's ever made.
