My plasma is Panasonic and as good as it was when I first bought it in 2001, however, it doesn't have a lot of hours on it. The Geek Squad guy that came to install my Samsung tried to buy the plasma from me. He said no better TV's ever made.

Our ZT60 runs about 10 hours a day and has for years.

Wow that's interesting. Are u married, kids? Nothing wrong with that at all, just different!
I am single no kids and the amount of BS I saw in the media made me liberate myself from being enslaved to it.This is what I did chose for myself I can't say everyone should do the same .I am very minimalist person and I feel more free that way.

You Amish? That radio a transistor?

I guess you made the ultimate protest when Happy Days went off the air? Whhhhhhoooooooaaaaaa, Fonzy gone so am I.

I have a friend that has not had a TV for as long as you and she spends her time reading, listening to and playing music. We all get together and some TV show comes up for discussion, she is lost. But then she can speak about all of the great books, always books she can hold not a Kindle, that have been out and leave most of us behind. She will get an immediate release and read it within 2 days and has at least 3 books going at once in different categories, always 2 non-fictions and often with opposing viewpoints and no one, and I mean no one, will debate politics with her because of her stored knowledge that she can access on a dime. She has her own very well informed opinions and is not manipulated by the media as most of us are and do not want to admit it.

That is cool good to see more people think and live that way. I respect her for doing so.
You are right about being lost sometimes i see a thread in here and i have to google it to see what is that. I feel i am from a different time the 80's to me is the last i vividly remember in term of events and media ....sure i am ware of major issues but entertainments i do care less. ....when people talk about this actor that singer I feel totally lost.

I would not mind marrying an Amish girl:) I get to know some of them during my visit to Philadelphia and buy stuff from them.Very lovely people. I love the simplicity they have.

Went to Sarasota Fl two wks ago to look at houses. Stayed in a hotel in Sarasota, Amish owned and run. Hotel was 1 yr old, beautiful place and we had a suite which was beautiful as well. The Amish gals running the place could not have been nicer, now they did not dress the usual part but I talked to one of them and she informed me that they were all Amish...again just wonderful and pleasant people. Anyway, 1st day checking in I see a sign in the lobby "Republican Convention tonight". I think to myself Boy I'm in the right place! The 4 of us are going out to dinner that 1st night and now in the lobby was a 6ft tall standee of President Trump. I tell the wife that she's got to get a picture of me with Trump so I can send it to all the guys back home. Great vacation...

Still got my circa 2010 Samsung 50 inch Plasma, it still has amazing color and deep blacks. 75% of its usage has been watching the NFL so overall it doesn't have a lot of hours on it. Am considering upgrading to a 65 inch 4K sometime in the next few years though.

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger, I have two TV's and am just as lost as you feel because I don't watch TV shows, I watch movies or sports like my soon to be Young Gods of Baseball Arkansas Razorbacks one win away for their first baseball championship in history and I will cry for happy. See how I worked that in? Clever, so very clever. If they win tonight, you might want to put me on ignore tomorrow. I will be posting amok for the OmaHogs of Middle Earth.

They have these people they call celebrities and I don't know who the hell they are or why they're a celebrity. I see them on Google's Entertainment section every freaking day but the difference between you an me is I don't give a damn enough to look them up. I will allow ignorance to enhance my life.

It's funny, I went from a 50 to 65 a couple of years ago and at first was like wow and then made the mistake of strolling through the TV section at Best Buy. The 80+'s were stupid expensive then and now they're as much as I paid for the 65 then.

Here's my challenge, I do not need a larger TV, I want a larger TV so I need to go from the want to the need stage, necessary for action, without knocking my 65 onto the floor. I thought about getting drunk enough to not remember I removed the batteries from the remote so I can say "this worthless pos, I need a TV that works!!!!" IIIIIIIII'mmm off the see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of Best Buy, becuz, becuz, becuuuuuuuzzzzzz of all the wonderful TV's he has. Doesn't rhyme, I know, I could be such a better poet with a larger TV. Ya see, I just can't stop trying to sell a sucker like myself.

Trust me I really don't care about them too It just once i search and find out the story I will be like: Really? Really? very disappointed to find this kind of crap taking seriously.
It is amazing how people squander their intellect for such a trash.

I will be cheering for your Razorbacks so we can have smiley threads lol

Thank you, they win and I will have a simile a mortician couldn't erase.

One thing the internet has done for me is to confirm that human beings are just as stupid as I thought they were but really didn't have enough evidence. The number of people that live their lives so vicariously through others and worship these celebrities are pathetic and there are many, many of them. I catch myself asking myself this question several times a day. How in the hell did we get to the top of the food chain? Got to be more than opposing thumbs.

People sadly by choice surrendering themselves to impulse .In the past you can say people might not know much so they are less blamed. but now technology has exposed the ugly mask human been wearing for a long time.
Some might say this view is too cynical but to me i would say a cynical person is nothing but a disappointed idealist.

resisting the bad impulse is the reason why we exist on earth... it is the conflict between the immortal soul and the limited temporary physical world it is a test and you gotta be discipline to pass it.

We got to the top of the food chain by kicking German and Japanese *** during WWII, the Greatest Generation. Boy what the hell would we do today?

I feel like I'm in the Stone Age with my modest 42 inch plasma from 12 years ago...
It just still works and I don't watch TV enough to justify the expenditure yet.

Honestly, that plasma should have burnt out 2 years ago...

Never buy Plasma TVs. They give off massive amounts of spurious RF signals that can interfere with other RF things. I'm not even sure why the FCC allows them to to be sold in the US.

Plasma TVs should be outlawed due to their piss poor spurious RF emissions.

I actually like RF emissions and the more spurious, the better. It hasn't been on in months. I only use it when I exercise and I've still got 37 excuses to use before I have to actually start the treadmill.

I'm a ham radio operator. I definitely notice when people have Plasma TVs! I usually use secret tricks to cause their TV to catch fire when I find out who is using one... o_O

I'm teaching others this same trick so they can rid the world of plasma tvs.

If it does screw up, you'll know you are living close to a Yosemite Sam student or he has moved into the neighborhood. I'd hope for the student.

I have a BTech UV-5X3 with a bunch of antennas, but I have zero idea how to use it...
