On saturday, this dog showed up at a party I was at. I gave her water and she hasn't left my friends house since Saturday. I believe she's been abused because she is afraid when approached. I think shes a Pit but could be wrong. She is completely tamed and seems to be ok with cats and other animals. If you want her or know someone that wants a dog and live in Southern California please let me know. I'll take her to you.

I think you should probably alert/take her to a no-kill shelter and let them handle it. You have no idea, that dog could be sick or have some other issues. Better to be safe than sorry.

She's had puppies before. She's probably been abused. Sad. Some people are worse than animals.

All the rescue shelters are full. They keep advising me to find someone to adopt her. My local county shelter told me they'd but her down if I brought her in since she's a Pit.

That dog is nursing. You should look around the area for her pups.

Nursing and if she doesn't get to it, she may well develop mastitis very soon.

I'm thinking if those pups were ok, she'd already be back to them on her own.

The truth, poor dog.

Been in a similar situation myself. You need to find a group like JerryAdvocate said. They are the only one's who will take the dog and not put it down.

My first thought was, "if she is nursing and staying away from her pups something happened." That's sad.

On late saturday night she disappeared and reappeared when we saw a car stopped down the road. Someone is dumping her off.

Here's a few links for rescue groups in southern Cali. Maybe this will be helpful:

http://www.adoptapet.com/adoption_rescue/72185.html

http://www.animalshelter.org/shelters/CA_Animal_Rescue__Education_Sanctuary_CARES_rId398_rS_pC.html

http://www.poochheaven.com/

http://www.allbreed-rescue.org/

http://www.petorphansfund.org/

http://www.amrt.net/

Edit: Some rescue groups like this will help you place them if you will foster them. One in our area doesn't have a shelter per se, just foster homes that the animals stay in until they can be placed. That's something else to consider if you have the ability to keep her temporarily.

You see more and more stories about owners dumping their pets due to hard times. Maybe this is another example.
