Looking like a Lame Duck season

Just when we were beginning to think this season was looking more hopeful than we thought it could be after dominating Browns( a playoff team) in Cleveland , we crapped the bed at home in a blowout fashion.

Now our season early on is reeling. And our Lame Duck HC looked like a deer in the headlights.

And if this continues to tank who has confidence Zimmer can do any better? Not with that defense.

There were some hopes we could get off to a good start this season even with a tough schedule and we might extend McCarthy at least one season to take the Lame Duck label off his back.

But at least our QB’s future doesn’t rest on success this season. Our owner had the foresight to secure him:)

Sure, there’s still a long way to go and we could begin to turn things around this week. But with Ravens, Steelers and Lions upcoming before the Bye it doesn’t look likely this morning.

So what happens if we are sitting here like at 2-4 at the bye? Is McCarthy safe? Is anyone safe? Maybe we let Zimmer go if defense continues laying a turd.

In a Lame Duck season for coaching staff anything is possible . Most of which isn’t good.

2-4? Teams do not play in a vacuum. Opponents will do their best in duplicating the New Orleans' gameplan for Dallas. Cleveland could very likely end up being an outlier. 1-5 is not out of the question if coaches and players do not make the necessary adjustments.

That aside, lame duck is an appropriate question in either scenario. Mike McCarthy has been a pre-scapegoat ever since the day Jerry Jones decided to not extend his contract.

I have always said it will take one of Jones' head coaches losing the roster (and nosediving) before he would fire one in-season. McCarthy and the coaching staff must work overtime in erasing yesterday's pathetic showing.

Can they get the players onboard? Can they get the players to perform at an above .500 level week-in week-out? These are McCarthy's challenges.

He must be successful if he wishes to avoid a Wade Phillips type fate. However, McCarthy will be viewed more pitifully than Phillips IF he gets canned for losing the team while not losing his starting quarterback to injury as an additional consequence leading up to his firing.

I’d argue 1-5 would spell the end for MM. 2-4 his seat will be extremely hot.

And if our defense continues this type of effort Zimmer might be in the hot seat first.

It all could come burning down.

This is what I expected. We didn't do much to shore up our defense issues. We are thin on O. The Saints came right out and punched us in the mouth and as usual, we folded big time. We cannot stop the run. We do great when teams wanna make it a track meet but if it's a street brawl, we don't even show up.

Meh. While I don’t think this team is going anywhere I look at all the games across the league yesterday and it’s very puzzling. SF, Detroit, Balty, Rams, Jags all losing and some going to 0-2.

It’s a weird season already and we’re just getting started

Fair enough. I think it was the fashion we lost which was more alarming.

This team isn’t as good as last season. You don’t lose that many free agents and expect to replace them with rookies and fringe players, while also expecting to maintain cohesion.

Jerry really should have played hard ball and seen how Dak and Ceedee performed this season before giving them record deals. He may be regretting his investment by seasons end.

Lame duck coach, no longer a lame duck QB on a one year deal, so what do we do

I think it would have to be bad for the Cowboys to actually fire McCarthy. Like players locking him out of the locker room, or the team just looking like the Carolina Panthers.

I think in 2010, Jerry was itching to see Garrett as his head coach. Season was wasted, let's see what Jason could do without too much pressure.
This year, we don't have a HC in the waiting. Maybe one day Al Harris could be one, but I don't think Jerry is itching to make him the HC, yet.
Schott is meh. Zimmer maybe for a purely intern role, but I doubt there's a case for him in 2025, especially if Bill B is desperate to get back into the NFL

It was our typical lay down and don’t play game. Noon game, full of themselves, and underprepared, bad practice week. Whatever it was it was exactly like the GB game. No one played well. Both units last week were on point. This week they didn’t show up.

Having said all that had I told you we start the season 1-1 you would assume that we lost to Cleveland and beat NO. Still 1-1 regardless.

Yup. Been saying it. Wade was 2-5 when he got whacked. I see a similar deal. Originally I expected Zim to be the interim, but not after that game. Maybe Al Harris.

It’s been looking like a lame
Duck season since the FO decided to do nothing in the offseason besides the draft and signing an old LB.

The F.O. Didn’t even try to get the roster to a championship level this year. Didn’t even try.

Only a narcissist could look you in the eye and say they did (see: Jones, Jerry)

At first the off season made sense if they planned to do a rebuild. But then when they decided to pay the QB at the absolute last moment it became clear. It wasn’t them deciding to move on from the core of the team. No no, it was just plain old incompetence combined with hubris.

Think about it. The F.O. Made the calculation that they want to keep the core of the team. They decided to pay thr QB and WR massive long term deals. And yet, they didn’t even try to field a championship caliber roster this season. They just threw a season down the trash.

They are awful.

The problem is that the NFL likes to instill false hope in all it's fans, and the Cowboy's do it even better than the NFL.

5-12, 9-7, or 12-5, does it really matter, we know how it ends.

When the Cowboys win a NFCCG then we can all get jolly and feel on top of the world, until then nothing to see here win or lose.

Things always look bleak after you get your butt handed to you.
Give them 6 games and see where they are.

I don't see how this is a surprise considering our off-season, the FO did not do nearly enough addressing our glaring issues. At best, this team was a fringe playoff team and certainly not improved enough to make any sort of serious playoff run.

Yea I get that and would agree with expected 1-1.

But we can’t dismiss the fashion in which we lost which is more alarming especially after opening win which I’d argue raised expectations. At least for me .
