Looking like a Lame Duck season

Just when we were beginning to think this season was looking more hopeful than we thought it could be after dominating Browns( a playoff team) in Cleveland , we crapped the bed at home in a blowout fashion.

Now our season early on is reeling. And our Lame Duck HC looked like a deer in the headlights.

And if this continues to tank who has confidence Zimmer can do any better? Not with that defense.

There were some hopes we could get off to a good start this season even with a tough schedule and we might extend McCarthy at least one season to take the Lame Duck label off his back.

But at least our QB’s future doesn’t rest on success this season. Our owner had the foresight to secure him:)

Sure, there’s still a long way to go and we could begin to turn things around this week. But with Ravens, Steelers and Lions upcoming before the Bye it doesn’t look likely this morning.

So what happens if we are sitting here like at 2-4 at the bye? Is McCarthy safe? Is anyone safe? Maybe we let Zimmer go if defense continues laying a turd.

In a Lame Duck season for coaching staff anything is possible . Most of which isn’t good.
I wrote this season off after our do nothing offseason.
You can't lose all those free agents and think you've improved.

Yea I get that and would agree with expected 1-1.

But we can’t dismiss the fashion in which we lost which is more alarming especially after opening win which I’d argue raised expectations. At least for me .
It did for me as well. But this is typical Dallas. Maybe NO is really good? Idk. Having said all that the D now through 2 DC’s have laid eggs and our offense can’t score TD’s.

This team isn’t as good as last season. You don’t lose that many free agents and expect to replace them with rookies and fringe players, while also expecting to maintain cohesion.

Jerry really should have played hard ball and seen how Dak and Ceedee performed this season before giving them record deals. He may be regretting his investment by seasons end.
CeeDee, you have to keep. He's legitimately one of the best WRs in the league.

Dak? Not so much.

Going into the season, I suspected we would struggle to stop the run due to our first three matchups. I didn't have much faith in our running game since we didn't draft an RB or spend significant capital in FA. Not to mention the huge question mark around having two starting rookie offensive linemen.

I thought it was reasonable to think we could get off to a 0-3 start. I believed we would likely be 1-3 but was hopeful we could pull off 2-1. I was pleased to see us win in week one but never anticipated a huge blowout like we saw this week. I don't expect next week to be another blowout, but we sure as hell aren't going to dominate the Ravens. It's going to be a brutal game. I hope we see some fight and improvement with our rookies and everyone remains healthy.

I thought most people would have realized this. I'm a bit surprised by everyone's level of expectation.

It was one loss. In week 2 for crying out loud. Come back in from the ledge.
Exactly. Lots of football left to be played. I think this game will wake up the Cowboys in realizing they can’t just throw their helmets out there on the field and expect to win.

It always was after the offseason and fee agency we had. People just got their hopes up again when we didn't address any of our needs.

Yea, yesterday confirmed some of the concerns many fans had going I got the season.

We’ll see if there’s any lingering effects.

Well we saw these guys give up already in week 2 so if the season starts to go south is there anyone out there that thinks this team won't give up? Especially with a lame duck coach and enabling owner who takes profit over wins? This could end up being a real ugly season fast.

Yea it’s got crash and burn written all over it .

But we must remember in NFL it’s just one game.

We’ll see how it feels after 1-2 and maybe 2-4 at the bye.

I don't see a coaching change before the end of the season. It would take a Wade Phillips type meltdown.

I agree. And we could see a similar collapse.

Just looking at the schedule coming up I could definitely see losing to Balt, at Pitt and Det which would be 2-4 at the bye.

Then followed up at SF, Phil and Houston. Would 3-7 bring down the house ?

the blowout loss or win, really means nothing. It's better to be on the winning side of course, but in the long run, teams are rarely as bad as they look in a blowout loss. I expect a few of these every year. Some days, you just don't have it, for whatever reason.

That said. Fire McCarthy or exend McCarthy really doesn't matter either. We are in "lame duck" seasons for at least another 4 years.

They"re going to have to show some grit and resilience against the Ravens. The Ravens arent really a 0-2 team - their season is also on the line. Dallas are going to have to fight for the win - we'll see if this team has any character or is just a marketing illusion.

With the exceptions of Jimmy Johnson and Bill Parcells (both of whom quit), the position of head coach of the Dallas Cowboys during the Jones era has largely been a ceremonial one. That figurehead being dominated, undermined, upstaged and outranked - often in humiliating fashion - by a megalomaniacal owner.

I will never understand those fans who want to immediately tell us how it’s all going to play out after a bad game. It’s called catastrophizing and is at its essence a cognitive distortion.
