Looks like Jerruh rehired Parcells

I have read what I can about Wade Phillips around here, but still can't shake the feeling that this hire is Parcells ver. 2.0. A little more agressive on defense, but steeped in Ol'Timey Football.

Why is Phillips any different from Parcells, except for the fact that Jerruh will be pulling his string?

watch tape of the Chargers aggressive D against our soft 3-4 D and its not even funny how much better the Chargers D was. the Cowboys when they were doing great on D all they did was prevent yardage. while the Chargers D not only prevented yardage but they got sacks and turnovers (which obviously lead to points) if Phillips does the same here we are gonna have the type of D that the Patriots and Steelers had when they won their SB's. Fun times should be ahead for us Cowboys fans!!!

He is more aggressive on D.

Which many feel was the problem with our D, not being aggressive enough.

I think it mainly boils down to the fact that Wade isn't going to try to control every facet of the game like Parcells. It'll be nice to actually have an offensive coordinator coordinate the offense. Parcells tried to do too much.

In addition, I wouldn't say Wade is about old time football. In fact, his defense is pretty revolutionary considering he continues to confuse offenses after all these years.

That does sound a little like Parcells, though, doesn't it? Seriuosly, though, a guy that is going to concentrate on the defense at the expense of the offense won't help much. Prolly take a defensive player in the first round. We need help at WR and Oline. I don't see Phillips doing that.

If you look at Wade's style, he loves a strong running game and believes in it. Also with Garrett being in the Turner mold, he will emphasize that as well.

What about TO and his drops?? Was Norv going to come in and teach a 33 yr old WR with 11 years in the league making 25 million to catch?? I think not.

The teams failure late in the season was due to a Defensive let down.. so Wade will do wonders here.

I don't care how young your coach is, or what era your play in, the basics of football remain the same. The teams today do not do anything different than the teams in 70's.. they either run it or pass it. And if you can those two things effectively,, then you will have success.

The teams failure late in the season was basically due to the defense not making adjustments.

Younger, style of football...once again that is the reason that brought in Garrett for the Offense.

If the defense did not collapse last year, I think we would have had home field advantage in some of the playoff games and probably would had one a game or two at least in the playoffs.

This teams has most of the parts here so why would you take a chance on a first time HC that may have someone come in and change both the offense and defense?

I could see changing one side completely around but not too sure you should change both.

If the team was a long way away and was rebuilding that would be another thing.

It is not like there were any GREAT hires out there.

It is just that this was not an exciting hire to me. I see that same ol' ball control offense, with more blitzing on defense.

As far as young coaches, Saints and Jets did alright.

And if football is the same today as 25 years ago, why didn't Parcells succeed? Why isn't Gibbs winning? The game has changed quite a bit. Defensive schemes are different and it is a passing game now instead of a running game.

Like him or not, Parcells went to three Super Bowls and four AFC Championship Games. He also went 8-8 one year with Ray Lucas as his quarterback. Parcells' record speaks for himself. I just don't think he was the same coach when he came to Dallas. He can say what he wants, he just didn't have the fire in his belly that he used to have. Phillips is different than Parcells because he's a decent coach who will go 9-7, where Parcells is a Hall of Fame coach that went 9-7. However, I will admit that the Cowboys will blitz a lot more on defense. Wade is a decent coach, I just think the structure and makeup of the team will always prevent it from winning consistently.

Well...He came in with that fire.

That first season coaching job was really great IMO.

I remember him basically doubling the win total with many of the same players Campo had.

He also provided some good entertainment on the sidelines when he would be cussing and yelling at people.

This past season it just looked like he was just flat out wore out and dejected because he could not get through to the players the importance of those last few games.

I was in the Rivera camp with one foot and Wade camp with the other for the most part simply because of what I think he WILL do with this defense. The more I think about it the more I like Wade here. Between Bowles and Wade this defense will take off.

It's obvious that JG is the future HC of this team, so until he is ready this is the best scenario. I am a bit worried about the offense, but I think knowing Wade likes a heavy run game we will make it work fine.

I like this decision!

Ridiculous take. There are minimal similarities between the 2 men.

This reaction is based entirely on him being old and fat. That's unfortunate that people react that way.

The comfort level with Phillips is very similar to Parcells.

I'm sure that was one of the over-riding factors in the hire.

Phillips allows the team to continue with a blueprint established by Parcells and Jones for this team.

Solid defense and a conservative offense that will be somewhat more innovative with Sparano and Garrett calling the plays.

The biggest problem with the Cowboys during the BP Era has been it's predictability on both sides of the ball.

I think that is over with the new hires.

It's still going to feel like BP is still around.

But it's also going to be less predictable.

Either we will be leading by 20 pts in the 4th Qt or we will be down 20 pts.

The way BP played..he always tried to slow the game down to stay close in the 4th Qt. and try to win it.

I don't think that will be the case now.

I suspect Sparano and Garrett are going to go out to try to post 20 pt in the first Qt. each game to simplify things for the defense to close it out.

Big difference.
