Looks like nothing will change in FA

This probably deserves its own thread.

Stephen Jones has said that they will not change their approach, they will build through the draft and dabble on the fringe of FA. Basically, hope you hit like 4 home runs in the draft and sign a bunch of Nolan Carroll types and hope like hell they don’t turn into bums you have to cut by October this year.

I had hope that Stephen had a better understanding of how to build a roster but apparently he is stubborn just like his dad.

I think he is still getting over being burnt by Jerry with poor FA signings and trades. He is too gun shy and needs to take a chance.

Sounds about right, they will keep drafting and hitting the bargain bin.

We can only hope they find better talent in free agency but last year was pitiful.

They had an up close look at a franchise that used FA wisely and is now playing in the SB.

And yet they stubbornly think that after 20 years of zero success they think they still know better than everyone else how to build a team.

It’s almost comical at this point how little self awareness the Jones’ family has.

Not stubborn, ignorant. There are those that labor under the misconception that if one does something for long enough they will learn to do it right. Think he would be employed by anyone in the NFL but his old man?

When they didn't bottom feed in FA, they sucked at that. Paid a #2 CB 50M because he was the best available at the time. Last A lister we got was on Parcells watch, La'Roi Glover.

Hmm...but listening to Jerry at the senior bowl...he said the coaching moves were made for the personell they have and might have. Maybe a trade for Earl Thomas is a possibility afterall?

It's disgusting.

That theory seems to apply to their feelings on Garrett. If he’s head coach long enough he’ll succeed.

That was evident when Jerry referenced “investment” a few weeks ago when talking about Garrett.

Just a reminder, last year at this time we said the same thing about the Giants. Remember how they built that great D through FA. Went 11-5. Kicked our butts twice. Lost in the WC game but picked by many to win the east. Then what, 3-13 and their defense wasn't much better than the offense. That's just a reminder about how things can change in a year. Yes we should play a bit more high stakes poker in FA. But if it's me, I'm emulating NE, Steelers, Ravens and GB, 4 teams who have had success for 10 plus years, built through the draft. Not saying the shmeagles won't be successful going forward, but one year is not proof. Remember the Giants and Cowboys in 2016

Their demise had little to do with FA spending the year before. It had everything to do with an aging QB who couldn’t play and a boob of a head coach. Further, no one is suggesting the Cowboys go drop 200MM in free agency this year like the Giants did.

But to ignore it like Dallas does is poor roster management. It just is.

And NE has and continues to use FA wisely. That myth that they just strictly build through the draft is a myth.

Why is stephen even making these calls? The GM should be making these calls. Oh I forgot, Stephen and Jerry are the GM. Stephen is another Jerry Jones except instead of a big spender, he's a thrift shopper. Zeke, Lawrence, and Dak would be smart to get out of this franchise before they get Romo'd and Witten'd. You're not going to get out of the 2nd round of the playoffs being here.

I'm not so sure, here's why. No doubt Jerry has to feel the pressure from fans and media to fire Garrett. Something he would rather not do given the choice. He knows Garrett need to win big to hold off the mob. We're seeing coaching changes like never before under Garrett. Hell, Jerry's even mentioned tweaking the offensive scheme. Wouldn't surprise me to see them bring in at least one, maybe two MID-LEVEL free agents for starting position ( Earl Thomas and/or Bennie Logan ). Nothing high level but more than the usual bottom feeding.
