Looming work stoppage after 2020 not good timing for Dallas

The CBA expires after the 2020..... most experts expect a strike or lock out

The NFLPA got taken to the woodshed last time and needs to make things more even but it won't be easy

Because of this I believe DAL is reluctant to add to too much guaranteed money past 2020.... unlike during the last CBA expiring 2020 will not be uncapped but it will have some different rules

-There will be no post June 1st cuts in 2020... all Dead Money will accelerate to 2020
-Teams can name a Franchise Tag and a Transition Tag..... not just one..... DAL has several candidates
-The 30% rule will be in place..... salaries cannot increase more than 30% year to year..... this will limit backloading contracts with large signing bonuses
-In 2020 all incentives will be LTBE or have to accounted for when they happen not in the offseason

DAL has several stars coming up for long-term deals:
DLawrence- UFA
Dak- last year of rookie deal
ACooper- 14m option for 2019
LCollins- last year of extension
JSmith- RFA in 2020
BJones- 7m option for 2019
MCollins- last year of rookie deal
EElliott- 5th year option for 2020

DAL has plenty of cap space .....50-80m this year and 125m next year but they have a lot of tough choices

Personally I don’t think the players came out bad in the Last cba
The money part anyway
I would not have the league running the personal conduct policy. Have an independent arbitrator
The league has to worry about discipline their own
Ditch the weed policy
Give the players another pct or 2
Cap the pct of the cap any one contract can be
Get back to playing
Don’t kill the golden goose
The last thing either side needs is a work stoppage

They can save over 12m by cutting them and letting them earn their returns

The NFLPA got hosed on the Salary Cap

They got a smaller % of growing pie....the salary cap went backwards after the last CBA and was the same in 2013 that is was in 2009......... and teams aren't punished for hoarding cap space/profits... the 90% Cash rule is as toothless as the Drug Policy

Teams left over 400m combined last year unspent.... they should add Roster spots and game day actives....... all 63 players should dress for games


They also too free reign to Goodell on the punishments and Conduct Policy

They cry about the Franchise Tag but players really love it..... what they need to do is find the balance between the Rookie Wage Scale and cutting Vets.... right now rookies are so cheap teams cut all the mid-level vets

Some kind of work stoppage looks inevitable..... especially with flat ratings and TV deals expiring

Teams that are rebuilding or aging teams that have just won.... not young teams with young stars that are on the rise and all need new deals

Dak is tricky...... teams used to give guys like him a 5/60m extension and then in 2-3 years they would tear it up and give him the monster deal

Now teams that are desperate for QBs give average guys top dollar.... like Jimmy G and KCousins and DCarr

Dak can make bank off the field and be the face of the Cowboys..... I hope he trades some APY for that kind of exposure

I might be able to buy Hurns a little bit if the plan is he's going to be the slot replacement for Beasley. Personally, I'd cut Hurns too or at least get him to restructure his deal.

But carrying a backup LB who might play 25% of the snaps, at best, at over $10MM? Insanity.

When you hear that you know it is only about the money

The problem with the NFLPA is that they only care about their current situation and never think ahead or big picture

They thought they were screwing the rookies with the new Draft Wage Scale but they made rookies so cheap that they ended cutting all the middle of the road vets.... now there is no one between the rookies and the superstars.... no middle class

They should raise the minimums salaries but lower their cap hits for the older vets

No one is going to sign a vet WR with an injury like AHurns had

Why would DAL pay him 5.25m when they could pay 1m?????

If they want SLee for his leadership hire him as a coach..... if he still wants to play then release him and invite him to camp to earn a spot like an UDFA
