With how much HBO is putting towards Game of Thrones - I'd imagine it would have been tough for them to be throwing 200 mil towards this - which after production, may be anywhere from 500-600 mil.

I think in the end, with the subscribers Amazon will get from this, it will be worth it.

Without a doubt, Matt. After seeing your budget post above, I changed my outlook :)
 
I'm a middle earth fan so I'll definitely give this a looks see. Just wish this was HBO or Netflix. Writing and casting will be make or break, so good luck.

With more subscribers comes more digital video purchases and rentals. Amazon is where I go these days for any video purchase or rental. So damn convenient

That's not the budget, that's what they paid just to get the rights. Who knows what they'll spend on the actual show.
