Los Angeles Lakers fire Mike Brown, but it's Jim Buss who needs to step down

COMMENTARY | The Lakers have built a winning franchise based on integrity, patience and a team-first mentality. The great Dr. Jerry Buss has built a legacy that seemed like it could never be tarnished given the franchise's 16 NBA titles and consistent ability to remain competitive in all circumstances.

That is until his son, Jim Buss, began to make basketball decisions that created a host of new issues for the Lakers, the latest being the firing of head coach Mike Brown. Ousting the head coach may have been the right move, but it's his initial hiring that was perplexing. Still, it's just one of many instances in a calamity of errors by the man calling the shots.

Aside from giving Brown a vote of confidence just days ago and subsequently parting ways with the former Coach of the Year shortly after, Buss has created further issues.

First, the younger Buss is responsible for drafting Andrew Bynum, and to put it in perspective, that may be the best thing he's done for this franchise even as the team has since parted ways with him. He's the primary person responsible for separating a roster full of stars from the offense they thrived in after he failed to hire Brian Shaw after Phil Jackson's departure.

Hey guys, I got a red hot candidate for the next Cowboys GM.

This is just stupid. Everyone whined and complained that Buss wouldn't trade Andrew Bynum for Dwight Howard and he did. He and Mitch did a great job this offseason putting together a very talented roster. Much better than the crap one the Lakers had last season. People blame him for hiring Brown, but who else was out there? Adelman? What he has he done? He's never won a championship either.

Jim Buss had two brutal coaching hires, Rudy T and Mike Brown. Both contracts the team had to eat tens of millions of dollars after firing the coaches early. That gets you fired anywhere daddy doesnt own the team.

I like how you don't mention the rehiring of Phil Jackson in 2005 and probable rehiring this year. :laugh2:

Someone has an agenda.

Um, Jim Buss is the reason PJ has left twice now. No agenda just the facts. For the record Jim Buss is no more a basket ball guy than Jerry Jones is a football guy. He was losing money as a horse trainer until about a decade ago until his father decided to give him a job. Unfortunately Jerry Buss wont live forever.

Adelman is actually highly regarded amongst NBA circles. Just because you've never won a title doesn't mean you arent a good coach. Look at Jerry Sloan. And imaging if the Heat dumped Spoelstra after their slow start 2 years ago.
