Phillips' 3-4 is similar in nature to a 4-3, so it's not that big of a deal in that respect.

Where it hurts is that Ratliff is not near the plug that Ferguson is. He can't just stand in there and trade blows with offensive linemen, esp. when they double-team the nose.

Even if he does, he can't play all the snaps at nose. He'll be lucky if he can play effectively in 70% of the snaps. We need a real nose tackle to at least back him up and play that other 20 or 30%. Ratliff is too small to be asked to play nose full time.

Instead of throwing out insults you could stop for a moment and think....hmmm. OH YEAH, we run a 34 defense where our DE's are basically hybrid DE/DT that would make very suitable DT's in a 43 defense as far as body types go.

Spears moves inside to teh 1 tech and Ratliff plays the 3 Tech? Then what? Canty is not a 4-3 end. So you go Ware and Spencer at DE? So you roll with 2 250lbs DE's? You also got 2 MLB in Aydole and James.

We don't need to worry though. This scenario won't happen.

We'll probably be pretty average against the run this year b/c of Fergy being out. But I think Ratliff may be better suited for the Phillips 34, while Ferguson was the perfect fit for the Parcells 34. I'm not tryin' to sugar coat it but the fact is Ratliff is a better pass rusher than Ferguson
