Pretty long ways away from the Jimmy Johnson small, speedy philosophy!

hmmm i didnt know that james was only 250, thought he'd be heavier than ware.

It's funny that Dat was always called small when he played around 240-245lbs. Granted he's 5'11".

he was small in hieght not weight
But he wasn't the most durable cat. If you could place his heart and smarts into Jason Ferguson's body we'd have had a top 3 defense last year.

maybe, we still had some problems at DE, and LB

hope they are not a step slow or that weight will not be of much good.

They had Dat listed at that size, but there's no way he was that big. I've seen him up close without pads and he's about 5'9" and maybe 230 pounds.

How about skill/playing ability?

That is more important IMO.

-----------------

While it is nice to see us get more size, since we are using the 3-4...we won't be a great defense unless everyone continues to develop as we expect them to (Spears, Canty, Ware, James)....players make seamless transformations (Ayodele, Carpenter/Singleton), play better (FS spot, Ferguson) and continue to play at a high level (Newman, Henry, Williams).

Hopefully, that all happens.

Here's a look at the height and weight of the LB's that played in NE's Super Bowl days:

McGinest 6'5" 270 lbs
Bruschi 6'1" 247 lbs
Ted Johnson 6'3" 254 lbs
Vrabel 6'4" 261 lbs

The average weight of our LB's is 254 lbs.

The average weight of the NE LB's was 258 lbs.

So, the weights are far from abnormal in the 3-4 and being physical and having size in the 3-4 is more important than having speed.

Plus, every single one of our LB's is faster than their LB's. The only person that it may be a close call between is Bruschi and Ayodele. However, Ayodele is playing Ted Johnson's old spot and he is much faster than Johnson ever was.

That Junior Glymph guy seems pretty big.

Is he a DE convert?
