How is the compenstation for a coach under contract determinded? Is there a set rule or is it between the two teams to work a deal. If it is based on Salary, then Lovie would not be to expensive, being the lowest paid HC in the league I believe.

All the Bears fans I talk to say they would prefer Lovie take the job in Dallas so they could keep Rivera and promote him.

He's a FA at the end of the season, so after the SB. I never thought about him because i thought for sure the Bears would resign him but now with the Cowboys job open you know Jones will show him the money that the Bears still dont!!!

If Rivera came with him I'd be all over it.

He's not a free agent...he has another year on his deal.

The Bears have an option for 2007 so compensation would HAVE to be given to the Bears.

I would take either one of them but its nice that Lovie could be an option if we dont get one so we can possibly get the other. Both are defensive geniouses!!

oh my bad then i thought he was a FA because all year there has been talk about how Lovie deserved a raise and cause i that i just assumed he would be a FA unless he was resigned

They probably also figure the Bears will get 2-3 high picks out of the situations as well.

I dont think he comes here but Why wouldn't the Bears give them permission? They're one of the cheapest organizations in the league...thus his deal now. Dallas would have to buy out his last year I believe...which gives them some $$. plus they go in house and promote Rivera and prob dont have to give him a big contract either. not entirely far fetched. who knows...

and what if Smith decided he would like to come back to Texas..where he is from? just food for discussion. he also grew up a cowboys fan and likes the area

Smith would be my first option over anybody. You name it, get crazy, do whatever, outside of Tom Landry in 72, I'd want Lovie for the Cowboys but it aint gonna happen.

Bears would never live down the back lash of letting him get away. JMO.

Why is that?

Where do you think the Bears defensive philosophy comes from?

I do not want another Coach who made his name with another team ....

I want a Coach who will make his legacy with the Cowboys ........

That is what has gotten us over the hump in the past ....

Why did you think I preferred Rivera?
