I eat low carb but not fanatical about it...

It's really sensible if you think about it. When a lot of us were growing up mom made a balanced meal. Meat, veggies and potatos or other carbs. We don't eat like that anymore. We have giant baked potatoes for a meal. We constantly snack on chips and other foods high in carbs and our body can't handle it correctly.

The Atkins is misunderstood. You DO go without ANY carbs during the first week, but after a while you can have 20 carbs a day... that's more than people think it is.

Most people should cut down their carb intake on their normal everyday diet...

They should also get away from the bleached whit bread and move to whole grains. It helps with your blood sugar and several other things that are healthier

Whole grain breads also require more energy to digest than plain white bread. It's like automatically subtracting calories off the breads calorie count. It's not a huge amount, but every little bit counts.

I'll take Scotch. Maybe an occasional spicy Bloody Mary. If it's beer, it better have a lot of flavor. If you pass me a Coors Light, you're liable to get shot!

Sooo... you are a pizza snob AND a beer snob. What Euro country are you from?

If it's not legally beer in Germany, it's not really beer. ;)

no currently 190.

I have an old fashion doctor who thinks most of these diet plans tend to be more harm than good. Eat in moderation yet too often people eat not because they are hungry but because it taste good and they enjoy it.

I've gone low carb before but they don't meet my energy needs throughout the day. If you don't have enough carbs you can feel like crap especially if you have a strenuous workout regime.

You need carbs for energy they burn quick so you have to experiment and see how you feel. Some people go zero carb which is crazy. A moderate carb low fat diet works best for me.

Backing away from the kitchen table works pretty well also. :laugh2:

no because of what you just said there about gaining it right back.

Now of course that can be said for any diet, really, but low carb diets are even worse about it.

Not to mention if you're into working out, while eating right, then being on a low card diet is detrimental to your workout success.

Not necessarily true. The problem with low carb diets is people eat a lot of fried meat and things with a lot of bad, saturated fat. If you go low carb and eat things like Salmon, chicken, catfish and things like eggs then you can still eat a lot of greens and my body responds to having a lot of energy. A diff kind of energy, but I really think it's the effect of just overall eating better (compared to what I normally eat).

I have worked out using this and the thing I do is just less weight and more repetition.

But I worked out on a low carb diet. Any diet has its downfall and you definitely have to be careful working out and you don't want to drink while on a low-carb diets.

But really, I think the biggest problem is saturated fat.

You could combine your low carb, high fat diet with some Alli and get a little boost.

Of course, potential anal leakage and greasy sharts aren't all that great but hey......ITS WORTH IT!!!

You mean the government should set standards to feed us whole foods?

Unless your diet consist of proper nutrition. Low carb and probably every other fad diets do not.

What you do is get a B complex vitamin, a multi-vitamin as well some ginseng and green algae or something. I never had a problem with energy as long as I was eating enough and drinking enough water.

Since all you're eating is protein and you're body is already burning fat, it's easy to turn it into muscle while on a low-carb diet.

The problem with gaining back the weight can be solved by staying on a reasonable diet, continuing to workout and changing the lifestyle that got you there in the first place.

I never said it was a great way to lose weight. But staying fat isn't very smart, if you ask me. And if you cut out things like beef and red meat for a while and replace carbs with veggies and low fat meat...well, i don't see a problem with that.

And I'd take the nutrition from South Beach or something along those lines compared to I'd say 50% of most Americans diet. I would just supplement what you lose with a multivitamin.

I've done these diets to lose 25 lbs two or three times at the most. I think I've done that twice in my life and it takes me a long time to gain the 25 lbs back. When I have gained it back, it's because I was ordering pizzas and eating other fast foods daily--and not in moderation.

In any case, I recently gained about 20lbs this year. But I'm about to use a low carb diet where I'll be eating a lot of spinach and broccoli, along with a lot of fish and stuff. Then I'll go all meat for a weak or so then back on the diet and then I'll hopefully gain my usual 5 lbs of water back then just eat more reasonably.
