Mathieu and Mingo participated in positional drills and both impressed throughout the afternoon. Afterward, they were also popular in interviews as well, with the Honey Badger spending extensive time with Tomlin and several of the other NFL assistant coaches on campus. Mathieu is expected to be drafted sometime on the second day of the draft and Mingo is a likely first-round pick. Head coach Les Miles added that he wouldn't be surprised if Mingo is the “first defensive player off the board.”

Linebacker Kevin Minter ran a 4.81 40-yard dash at the combine but was able to improve that number to 4.67 on Wednesday, adding a 34.5-inch vertical jump, 7.37 three-cone drill and 4.47 short shuttle. The potential first-round pick also looked smooth in linebacker drills and only helped his case to be the first player chosen in the draft at his position, ahead of other middle linebackers like Manti Te'o and Alec Ogletree.

With double-digit underclassmen leaving early for the NFL, LSU might challenge the record for the number of draft picks in a single year, which stands at 14 (Ohio State, 2004).

Other notes from LSU's Pro Day:

-- Defensive end Lavar Edwards stood on several of his marks from the combine but was able to improve his 40-yard dash (4.78) and bench press (21 reps). Although he hasn't received the same attention as the Tigers' other pass rushers like Mingo and Sam Montgomery, Edwards is very much in the top-100 discussion.

-- Wide receiver Russell Shepard was a late addition to the Senior Bowl but he didn't receive an invitation to the combine. On Wednesday, he turned in average workout results, including a 4.51 40-yard dash, 4.32 short shuttle, 7.04 three-cone drill, 38.5-inch vertical jump and 10-4 broad jump.

-- Cornerback Tharold Simon ran a 4.51 in the 40-yard dash at the combine and was able to improve that number at LSU's pro day with times in the 4.44-4.49 range. He also improved his short shuttle (4.41) and three-cone drill (7.00) on Wednesday.

The #Cowboys worked out a pair of LSU players, S Eric Reid and DT Bennie Logan. Reid is a 1st rd option, Logan a 2nd or 3rd.

ESPNDallas.com didn't attend but we have a few results thanks to the LSU media relations staff.

*Safety Eric Reid who could be the first or second safety taken. Texas' Kenny Vaccaro has already said he wants to be the first safety off the board. Reid ran the 40-yard dash at the pro day in 4.50. It was slightly better than is combine time of 4.53. The Cowboys are in need of another young safety and some teams might like Vaccaro over Reid. But one agent said he thinks Reid will get drafted first.

*It was interesting to see cornerback Tyrann Mathieu come in with some bulk at his pro day. Mathieu is 5-9, but weighed 186 at the combine. Wednesday afternoon, Mathieu was 194. He didn't run the 40, standing on his combine time of 4.50. Mathieu's off-the-field problems is an issue and the Cowboys don't have a need at corner. Still, coach Les Miles has a good relationship with Cowboys GM Jerry Jones and if Mathieu's name is on the board in the third round maybe the Cowboys take a chance.

*Barkevious Mingo didn't bench press or run the 40, but he measured at 6-4, 237 pounds. The defensive end was an outstanding pas rusher in college and will play outside linebacker in the NFL. The Cowboys don't need Mingo in their 40-3 scheme. If the Cowboys had stuck with a 3-4 and let Anthony Spencer walk in free agency, would Mingo have been a nice selection?

*According to Dallas Cowboys.com Tom Ciskowski, the assistant director of player personnel and Drew Fabianich, the national scout, were in attendance. ... Last time the Cowboys drafted an offensive player from LSU was wide receiver/running back Skyler Green in the fourth round in 2006. Could running back Michael Ford be next. He impressed everyone with a solid 4.41 40 on Wednesday. In the combine, Ford ran a 4.50. At 5-10 and 206 pounds, Ford could be a nice little scat back for the Cowboys offense to compete with Lance Dunbar. ... Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, who attended Texas' pro day on Tuesday attended LSU's event. Saints coach Sean Payton was also in attendance at LSU.

Cooper and Vaccaro gone at 18 it could be Reid. I would love for a trade back and still get Reid, Schwenke, Pugh, and Logan

I think Reid is the main player they are looking at.

Would not be surprised if they trade down in the 1st and grab him. Don't think he makes it to #47.

Bennie Logan - DL - Tigers
Dallas Cowboys Star's Rowan Kavner reports LSU DL Bennie Logan had a workout with the Cowboys.
Logan worked out for the Cowboys a day after teammate and S Eric Reid. The Tigers defensive lineman told Kavner that teams are looking at him as a one or three technique. The Cowboys are perhaps in need of both and Logan could be an option for them. He is considered to be a mid-round selection.

I could see them liking Logan as he can play the 1 or 3 technique. He's also been described as a hard working, high motor type of player.

A team with a bunch of picks can take a flyer on Mathieu. Wouldn't be surprised to see him, at least for a few years, stay out of trouble and be a good NFL player.

Why do you like Pugh? I'm trying to figure out why the draft analysts like him.

He does have really quick feet, but not much power. His arm length (31.5") is not good even for an OG.
