This, I don't see. I see a University that tucked it's tail and ran. I think they were blinded by the fact that it's the SEC and didn't think about whether they would actually fit in. Texas A&M is a long way from Florida. I doubt a lot of Florida high school athletes will go all the way to A&M if they can land in an SEC school that is much closer. (not to mention a better football team)
We "tucked tail and ran" to the best conference in America? We're not leaving the Big XII for the Big East, we're leaving for a conference that has won five straight national titles and is on pace a sixth this year. We arent doing this because we're afraid of the compeittion in the Big XII, otherwise we would be going to an inferior conference.
Also, the recruiting advantage doesnt extend to other states so much (though A&M currently recruits Louisiana and Florida very well) but gives A&M a card to play when OU and Texas come calling. Many athletes want to play in the SEC. A&M has already picked up two commitments who were previously committed to other schools, citing wanting to lay in the SEC as the main reason. Will it be a world of difference? No, but it will help get a few players every year who we wouldnt have gotten otherwise, we're already seeing that play out.
