Luck or Credit?

Many have said the FO should have a plan for someone to take over for Tyron Smith. Many of us said we should draft a LT that we want to slide out eventually, but can start at LG.

The FO did just that and drafted Smith. IF he continues to improve and turns into a stud LT, do we give the FO credit or call it luck?

FWIW, I’m not a FO homer nor a huge cynic player acquisition-wise. We make some solid decisions and some strange ones; probably a slightly above average player acquisition FO all things considered.

If you pick a player after the 1st overall pick who ends up being good then that team should get credit. If you pick a bad player in the draft the team should get credit. I don't understand this luck thing. There are several teams who passed on players we have that are very good. I mean hate Jerry as much as you want, but he has guys within the organization that are excellent drafters. So to that I give Jerry all the credit in the world, he owns the team and he listens to his experts.

Ill give em credit. Because there is no tape in college that says great LT from day 1. I thought he could become that in a couple years at LG but hes proven me wrong thus far.

Credit for good picks is only part of it. How do you build the rest of the team, assemble the coaches etc etc.? There's a lot that goes into it and this front office has proven that hitting on draft picks isn't enough.

Well i mean i thought he was going to be a dumpster fire like chaz green. But he did get daks hand broken so im up in the air.

Great might have been too strong a word. But he played better than i would have thought

I'll say better than I thought, too. But I think the refs let him play more than other crews will.

There are those who will bark just to bark regardless of how Tyler turns out. I give them credit for drafting ball and waletzco to be a backup and for drafting Smith. They could have addressed the position sooner or had a better plan to replace smith, williams, and collins all at the same time.

Of course you give them credit. They deserve credit when things turn out right. Getting a stud at the position they draft, even in the first round, deserves a lot of credit.

But we are getting ahead of ourselves. Tyler had a nice game and avoided the holding penalties he got in college, but he had some issues at times as well. I will say this, he has NFL strength right now. He shoved some good players to the ground Sunday.

The fact that he didn't get annihilated by their DE's is a huge accomplishment for his first NFL game. Strength in the trenches can't be under appreciated. Like speed at other positions. It just sets the player's floor higher. They can get away with mistakes others can't.
You continue trying to get them better from a "technical" standpoint but it only supplements natural strength or speed.

Everything in the nfl involves a little luck but they also scouted smith and was on him well before the draft
I know many fans can’t accept the fact that when it comes to the draft, the cowboys are pretty good
That doesn’t make you a homer, just a realist
Jerry gives us lots to gripe about but sometimes just have to give credit where credit is due

Well, they draft very well, so it was no accident.

It is just the free agency philosophy and putting the final touches on the roster that the Jones’ apparently have trouble with. They don’t fill holes the way they need to in free agency and made bad decisions like having bad backup QB’s. Those things will just kill an otherwise good roster.

But yeah, they might be the best drafting team in the league. Smith was no accident.

Draft would be good when combined with winning. Those things go hand in hand. They've done well in certain areas while making mindnumbingly stupid decision in others, like their philosophy in round 2. There's no real credit without winning postseason football games. If that's the case then you care about the wrong thing. Jerry's credit isn't at the top of my list when the front office been screwing the pooch for 30 years.

Yes, they drafted with a solid plan.
But why not sign a swing tackle in the offseason?
We have cap space.

Credit for the drafts
Other front office decisions,
Not so much....

Their first round success isnt luck. It happens EVERY year. Their 2nd round failures are not either as they almost do it ever year.

I'm having "Who gets the credit?" flashbacks to last season. :muttley:

After 3 playoff wins in 26 years of fantasy football front office, there's only one way the Jones boys are getting any credit from me.
