Lukas Van Ness

Just messing’ with ya. I’m an Illini fan and don’t recall if he did anything against us this season. I’ll have to look at box score from the game. I like this clip for sure.

Merry Christmas!!

FWIW here's Todd's opinion

HT: 6-5 | WT: 269
Grade: 89 | Prev. rank: 18

Van Ness has followed up his seven-sack 2021 season with six more in 2022, along with 29 pressures, 13.5 tackles for loss and 10 run stops over 13 games. He is an excellent pass-rusher who continues to improve with more game experience -- he has only 27 career games and has never started, but he will be headed to the draft. Van Ness has the length, quickness and power to make a difference at the next level, and he can play inside or outside.

I need to take a closer look at him. Most sites show in round 3. Iowa D linemen tend to be steady Pros.

does this answer your question @Hardline ? Excellent question on your part.

Lukas Van Ness, Edge

  • School: Iowa
  • Year: Sophomore (RS)

Van Ness is extremely explosive and has the versatility to play up and down the line. He is a finisher as a pass rusher and he can overpower blockers in the run game. He should test very well in the spring.

Sneaky good athlete/prospect.
I don’t think he’s sneaky anymore. PFF ranked him in their top 20 and Daniel Jeremiah had him going like 8th overall in his mock. He’s not the top prospect in this draft, but he was certainly my favorite to watch so far.

Love LVN’s power and get off, you can play him anywhere from 3-5 and I think he’ll be exceptional. Crazy he never started for that Iowa defense, but I imagine that was a coaching/seniority thing. He was by far the best guy on that line and if it wasn’t for their historically bad offense I think the Iowa defense would have had a lot more hype.

I knew he would eventually be noticed by the rest of the league .

Yup, he’s in the spot now where they’ll start mocking him consistently in the teens to twenties I’d guess. A lot like Travon Walker around this time last year. He’ll probably end up top 15ish if he kills the combine like I’m starting to expect.
