Newman was a surprise guest on the Lunch Break today on dallascowboys.com. Not sure if this was posted or not.

They got into the 1st TD from the Vikings game. He basically said if you don't know the call, and don't watch the film that they do then you just don't know.

He explained on that play that both corners are doing the same thing, with a blitz from a LB and a DE. So the ball is supposed to be a quick throw, so the corners start 7 yards deep to get inside the receivers, anticipation of a quick throw. He stated he did it the way he was coached to do it.

There's more about coverages and stuff. It was a good listen.

He hits just after the 43 minute mark.

That is a real poke in the eye to all the board "experts" who are ALWAYS so SURE who blew what coverage. Kind of hard to do when YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT COVERAGE WAS CALLED.

So was that same coverage called when Newman allowed Vincent Jackson to get behind him as well?

If so, hold Dave Campo responsible.

imo Newman should bump the wr if the Blitz doesn't work. I'd rather give up a 5 yard illegal contact penalty than a 49 yard td.

I'm guessing this coverage has been used successfully many, many times (as it would have been if Sensabaugh had seen the ball at all). Giving up 5 yards and an automatic first down almost every time would not be a good idea.

Problem is the receiver is 15 yards passed him before he knows if the blitz worked.

He still should get a lot of blame for the loss. Just check out the TDs allowed.

Jenkins gave up 2.
Each starting safety game up 1.

That's a pretty bad showing from Newman.

So how many do you think TNew gave up? And it still does not mean anything. If you do not know what the coverage was supposed to be how can you know who to blame? What looks OBVIOUS sometimes IS NOT the truth.

i'm not saying everytime but sometimes you gotta do it since we've seen Sensy give up a deep pass twice now in big games. plus I doubt they will throw a flag everytime he does it.

How many did Newman give up? Zero. That is why he should get blamed...

If Favre hadn't thrown the ball to Rice he would have gone to Berian on the other side.Berian was just as open as Rice.

Craig

Wasnt he lined up more than 5yds off the LOS to begin with?

If he was (and I think he was) then he couldnt "bump" him in the first place because it was beyond 5yds, unless he would have first come up to do so.

Regardless, the coverage was perfect but the guy (Sensabaugh) didnt make the play, that isnt Newman's fault.

I really dont know why this is such a big deal anyway.

First, we do not know what coverages are called, so the players are doing as they are told. Second, that coverage has worked many, many times. Gosh darn the luck of it all then.

Sensabaugh was there with pretty good coverage but just did not pick up the ball. It was not as if the WR was running scott free.

It's all because Troy saw fit to blame him on national TV.

I couldn't hear the sound well during the game, and when I saw everyone here blaming him for that TD, I knew the announcers must have said it was his fault. Sure enough, that's what it was.

And for those who obviously don't know... Corners or any player can't just do what they want out there. They're coached to play a technique and that's what they're supposed to do. I guess we could go back to the Pacman Joneses of the world who ignore coaching and do whatever the hell pops into their heads... But no thanks.

Be nice if some would use that same logic with Romo.

I said nothing about luck, there was another team on the other side and Brett made a great throw on the play. As were a few others on the day. Sometimes you just have to credit the other team who also have professionals on their team.
