Preorder? Why? This is 2010, no one sells out of games anymore with a million sources.
For a variety of reasons, really.
1) I can pay on it when I feel like it till the game comes in so that when it gets here I'll owe maybe 5-10 dollars on it, tops. Or nothing at all for that matter. That's convient, to me anyway.
2) The extras you get from Gamestop and/or the game company itself for pre-orders. A lot of games, that I've seen thus far, gives you little extras if you pre-order.
For example with my UFC 2010 I get 4 extra fighters that you can only get if you pre-order the game through gamestop. There is no other way to unlock them or have them available. They're not anything special, just 4 more guys from last years TUF show, but it's something extra that's kind of fun to have, IMO.
Another example is that I know if you pre-order Red Dead Redemption through Gamestop then you get some sort of added feature that allows you to wear it permanetly, through out the game, as an extra costume feature of some sort that cuts the regeneration time in half of some special feature called Dead Aim which is used to temporarily slow time down so that you can shoot 4-5 badguys before they are able to do anything, used during big time battles I suppose.
The slow down time feature, the Dead Aim, is always there but it takes time to recharge, or the use of items. With the added feature by pre-ordering it cuts the recharge time in half and you never have to find items to recharge it with.
It's nothing major, of course, but it's a neat little extra for those who go out and pre-order things.
3) I don't have to fight through crowds or stand in long lines to get my game. I can wait a couple days after it comes out, walk right in and pick up my copy that is behind the counter saved for me.
It's really simple convience for me is why I like pre-ordering.
