Magic one of the ones who gets it.

So, I met Magic Johnson at practice. For a kid who grew up immersed in the Celtics-Lakers rivalry of the 1980s, that was pretty cool. Said he was a fan of both teams and that Jerry Jones is the man. Magic really knew his stuff, too, says he watches all the Cowboys games and defended Tony Romo, saying, “He throws for 400 yards, and they blame him for the loss. It’s not like he’s playing defense. The offense is one of the best ones in the league.”

Just about every QB throws for 400 points these days, but his point is well taken. If Romo played in Seattle or San Francisco, he'd have a couple rings by now. He's much better than Wilson or Kaepernick.

Don’t know a ton about Kenneth Boatright, the defensive end the Cowboys signed on Aug. 1, but he just keeps making plays. Like all the time. Definitely the surprise of camp for me. Can’t believe the Seahawks let him go. Have heard a few people in Oxnard drop the George Selvie comparison in terms of a guy coming out of nowhere, off-the-street, and making a real impact. Rod Marinelli loves having an eight-man rotation with his defensive linemen and at this point, I can’t imagine Boatright not being among that group.
Finally a bit of good DL news. We are so overdue it's ridiculous.

Anthony Spencer did some resistance change-of-direction late in practice, and looked quite spry. That’s a fun word to say and type. Spry. I’m not sure he’s going to play Week 1, but he’s going to play in September, that much I’m sure of barring a setback. Best guess would be Week 3, but they are still shooting for the opener.
Hey look at that I found another DL nugget of good news! Maybe we field a decent DL by October.

But is he as good as E-Lie?

I don't believe Romo needs defending. He is one of the top QB's in the ;league.

Is he perfect?

No.

Has there ever been a perfect QB in the pros?

Please.....get serious.

Doesnt Tom Cry Brady walk on water? And didnt Joe Montana?

The bottom line is that we will miss him when he is gone. Some of us realized that earlier than others. Some of us never will.

I liked the post but would add good-to-excellent quarterbacks received a good deal of undeserved criticism also. Admittedly, I get irritated watching a high school, college, or pro game and (for example) see a receiver get outmuscled by the defensive back or lets the ball bang awkwardly off their hands--and hear someone sitting nearby or read comments saying so-and-so threw a pick because the receiver did not do his job. It never makes sense, but what can someone do in those situations except shake their heads? :( Or post disagreements on Cowboyszone? :p

So, if Brady actually fumbled that ball instead of the refs making up a rule. And if Danny White had completed another couple of passes to set up ma field goal, would the careers of Brady and Montana have been different.

If is a huge word here.

Largely agree.
Is it just me or is Magic one of the more sleazier ex-athletes around? He seems to be around every major sports event, happening or issue and always half something to say even though he comes off as . . . uneducated.

I would imagine it is difficult to be so gifted as an athlete and then to have your career shortened by disease. Or being a professional athlete period. If you had a long career, it must be a struggle adjusting to the day you are not on the field. Your mind still can make all the plays. You see all the action and can dissect it as fast as ever. But your body will no longer keep up with the younger kids.

At some point they all come down to earth where we reside.

And while I would imagine all of us dream what it must be like to be a pro, and all that entails. It has to be doubly difficult for those who dream the dream of the ones who did but can no longer.

With the road that Magic has walked, I don't think I would be asking about sleezy...but a question about Magic guarding Tony, I would ask if Tony was able to score on him?
