Are you concerned at all that Terence Steele will be rushed back? With Tyron Smith slated to be at left tackle and Tyler Smith at left guard, it just seems like they're assuming Steele will be ready even though he tore his ACL last December. Michael Gallup tore his ACL late in the 2021 regular season and never seemed quite right last year. Would it be better to let Steele really rest and have him ready to go later in the season? – Mark Williams/Atlanta, GA

Nick Eatman:
Just look at the guys up in the picture. Those are the best in the business and regardless what you might think, players don't get "rushed back" ... ever. There's no point in getting a guy back on the field if he's not ready, especially coming off an ACL injury. Now, since you mentioned Gallup, he wasn't rushed back into action. In fact, the Cowboys kept him back a few more weeks than he even wanted to return. But just because a player doesn't look his normal self, it doesn't mean they came back too early. Most of that is rust from being out of the action for so long. If they kept Steele out an another month, he's still going to deal with the same type of issue. I think the athletic trainers know what they're doing and they'll get Steele back when he's ready, which I think will be before the start of the season.

Patrik Walker: I'm not concerned about that at all. I've now seen Steele walking around the facility for weeks without a brace on his knee, and he's been very upbeat any time I've asked him directly about his progress — mentioning on at least one occasion that he feels he's ahead of schedule. Does that mean he'll avoid the PUP list to start camp? I highly doubt it, which also goes to my point in that the Cowboys are going to be cautious and deliberate with how they bring him along, and that's especially true when considering the team feels Tyron Smith is a viable option at RT1 to begin the season, if they need to make that call. The only question I have is will Steele be ready for Week 1 or, like Gallup in 2022, if he'll miss the first few games before he's allowed to take the field.

Anthony Brown

There has not been much of a buzz on Anthony Brown since he hit the market. The Cowboys have opted to not bring him back so far this offseason, but he should not be completely ruled out. Dallas upgraded their cornerback room with the trade for Stephon Gilmore and DaRon Bland surprised most last season as a fifth round pick. With Trevon Diggs and Jourdan Lewis still around, Brown became expendable.

Like Bland, Brown stepped up big his rookie season as a sixth round pick from Purdue. The former Boilermaker had 55 tackles and one pick as Dallas' defense regained form. Brown would start the next five years as one of Dallas' corners. 2021 marked his best season with 71 tackles and three interceptions. He spent most of last season sharing starts with Lewis until he tore his Achilles late in the year, ending his season.

Coming off a serious injury, Dallas has opted to not bring him back so far. It is understandable with Diggs and Gilmore as the starting corners with Lewis and Bland backing them up. However, depth has always been a question mark for the Cowboys most years.

The teams that win big always have depth because injuries happen. In past years, Dallas struggled late in the season due to injuries at key positions. Bringing back Brown could provide even more help to a loaded defense.

Not really. The teams that win generally stay healthy.
No clue here...teams overcome adversity what so ever it be, to be winners. Fact!

Did or did not Dallas win 12 games last season with 3 starting offensive linemen missing at one time?

Struggling on the offensive line ultimately did them in in the playoffs...

Sucks for Anthony Brown. Was looking like an average #2 corner in a contract year then blows his Achilles late in the season.
Now, he may go unsigned/be it for his career.

I don't think they'll rush back Steele. I think the talking heads may be optimistic about his return but I do not think the coaches/medical would put him in until he's ready/"NFL healthy".

I agree and I've been watching some of the Terrence steel workouts and he looks ready to go now as far as movement doesn't look like he's favoring the leg so if he doesn't have a set back I don't see why he won't be starting game one and it's a big difference between Michael Gallup he's a wide receiver who has to go full speed almost every down and cut change the direction and try to make odd jumps and coming down on one leg and whatnot from angled catches we're talking about a dude that plays in a phone booth basically it's a big difference between positions and I don't think it's gonna be the same. Gallup was a complete different animal because of his position and he seemed to be in his own head as far as running routes and trying to stay away from contact and he wasn't rushed back in my opinion he just never got back to his old self. If you look like his counterpart over in Tampa Bay after about four or five games in he looked like his old self it it is what it is.

Ok?

But the 49ers had no chance because they couldn't complete a pass because all of their QBs were hurt lol.
During the game, they were just outclassed by a better team...game plans that got them to that place, were shut down by a more fluid and physical team for that game.

So, you are saying the 49's were better just unlucky, sorry guy. Doesn't fit the picture that went down. Most games are one by under 10 points, outclassed or not.
Want an argument, then go ahead and start it off...I didn't stutter and your ears don't overlap.

You might start with topic discussion...

IR may be the plan all along.

The OP was to examine recovery and use of previously injured players.
