Given the way the Cowboys have looked the first two games, I can't complain. Still, I find it odd that Michael Gallup hasn't been more a part of the offense. Does this new "Texas Coast" offense not suit his style of play? Could he potentially be a trade candidate? I hate saying that because I like him and his skill set, but he doesn't seem very involved in the system so far.Adam Lopez/Frisco, TX

Nick Harris:
This new offense that we've seen in the first two weeks has been predicated on taking advantage of the short-to-intermediate game and getting the ball out quick. As a result, we've seen guys that can get open quickly such as CeeDee Lamb and Tony Pollard get active in the receiving game quite a bit, but for a guy like Michael Gallup who doesn't necessarily excel at releasing off the line and creating quick separation, it's made things difficult for him to get involved. With that being said, I think a solid opportunity awaits in Arizona for him to get involved more than we've seen in the first two weeks against an inexperience secondary. As for being a trade candidate, I wouldn't go that far just yet with Gallup considering that the talent is still there and the potential for him in this offense still exists. It will just take some creativity to find his permanent role.

Patrik: This marks the third time I've been posed this question this week and I'm not saying that to knock it, I'm saying it to provide validation that you're not the only one outside of the build who is asking it. I would have liked to see more from Gallup in Week 2 (rain and no need to take risks in Week 1) but, in the absence of Brandin Cooks, it was Jalen Tolbert stepping up as the secondary contributor in the receiving corps, the tight ends notwithstanding. But that doesn't mean, yet, that he's a square peg in a round hole. He also wasn't really targeted against the Jets, but Tolbert was, and I could argue both sides of the coin as to why that might've been. In all, it's still only Week 3 and not even the Cowboys know what the "Texas Coast" offense looks like at full throttle, so how can fans and analysts? And, for that reason, I'll reserve judgment on the fate of Gallup in this new-look offense — feeling his skill set will come into play on more than one occasion this season and, if it does, then that'll answer the question. And, if it doesn't, that will answer the question as well. With 15 regular season games remaining and [hopefully] a playoff run, let's not go throwing away a former 1,000-yard receiver in mid-September.

I'll reserve judgment for Michael Gallup too.

Only 2 mere games into the regular season is way too early and premature
to be panicking about his production ( or lack thereof) ..

His side of the passing attack will be coming along and expanding field coverages. Let the line work some together now.

He has talent and can open up good speed once away from the line of scrimmage. He can also catch a lot of elevated and contested balls in mid to deep routes. He brings talent to the table. St.Louis and New England could be good games to challenge with him...let's see.

The only time he ever had a good year was behind 2 pro bowl wrs. Now with a knee injury to a guy who already was a 4.5 guy he struggles to get open.

I'll wait on the physician and trainer reports...seen his current times? He's not that old nor operation results so bad not to over come and fully...

Well why don't we all in here go ahead and pick apart Brandon cooks for being less than productive as well and don't say injury because that's part of it what is he done the first two games that Michael gallop hasn't done that's the whole .2 small sample size or two games into a brand new offense that we've been running way more than we're throwing and when we're throwing we're dumping it off quick looking for kevonte Turpin Tony Pollard the backs...

We will be happy if we need Michael Gallup or Brandon cooks in case there's an injury or we go up against a team that locks down our top two guys then they'll get their time but at least we have the depth...

Has Gallup been worth what he resigned for? Not even close. Would I try to move on from the guy? No chance. The guy is going to have minimal trade value, and it's not affordable to cut him...yet. He really isn't a fit for what we've seen from this offense this season, however it's also unrealistic to think you're going to play 17 games + playoffs and not have to adjust your scheme based on a few opponents. Gallup is the one guy who you're going to struggle to scheme him open. His biggest strength is playing north/south and going up top to grab contested balls. I think you've got to be patient with him and take your shots when you need to and when you have a favorable matchup. In neither game so far this year have they really needed to go to Gallup.

I think Gallup is a guy who is talented but only does a handful of things better than a JAG receiver. I bet he is a guy who is quiet for most of the year, but we see a couple games where he randomly pops off for 100+ yards.

I'll just hold your opinions then until the team comes asking for your advice as a scout or coach for them...Sorry Charlie,

He’s always struggled with separation which is why he always had to make contested catches. If MM is calling for more conservative play and not pushing Dak to throw tight windows, then naturally Gallup is not going to get as many targets since he doesn’t get much separation, esp compared to Lamb and Cooks.

We have to stop acting like Our Offense is pass first, Dak is literally taking the dump off if 88 isn't open down field. I don't completely blame 13, Cooks hasn't gotten going either

I don't think Gallup is NFL caliber. He has short alligator arms in traffic and causes interceptions by not going after the ball.
