News: Mailbag: How Deep Is The First Round

So the Dallas defense ended up 7th in takeaways with 23. I did not think they were that high. I figured somewhere in the 20's. Many of those came later in the season though. Just think if they came earlier, plus less turnovers on offense. They may have won a few more games that would have won the division.

Then the tankers would have really been upset, as to drafting in the 20's and not at 10. Though it would have meant we made the playoffs. But that is to logical.

this draft continues to sound like a weak top heavy draft with more "value" in the mid rounds....i am no experet on drafting but thats what i keep reading....if thats the case and we could move back to the 20s and end up with 2 x2s 2x3's and 2x4s (including our comp picks) i think we would all be pretty happy with the "potential"....as to what we do with it, thats another q.

Top 10 defense is a pipe dream. Unless LVE and Jaylon regain their form from a couple of years ago there is only so much talent they can add in one off season. I do believe we would see a different defense if the Cowboys scored early and the defense had a lead to play with.

I look at guys expecting to go 20-32, and my opinion changes every day. Somedays I think its pretty deep there, some days I think its pretty shallow. I do think its a strong day 2 defensive draft though

That's what's even more impressive....they were one of the worst teams in turnovers starting the season off and somehow managed to become 7th.....

This is what these "experts" do every year. I've seen it all the time. A year ago Trevor Lawrence was a can't miss prospect and a year later he has holes. Justin Fields has "questions" on him. They talk themselves out of the prime prospects but will hype up guys who are projected to be late 1st or early 2nd rounders and we never hear from them again.....

that's a misleading stat. 11 came in the last 4 games against 4 win teams, three of which played their back up QB.

Being in the playoffs and going one and done < picking high in the draft.

most of the teams from game 1 -16 played bad teams who cares late, middle, or early , you are graded out over 16 ..some got them early., some in the middles, some late..

stop trying to downgrade the ranking without going over the other 31 teams and see where they got theirs, Im betting most teams get most of their wins and padded stats against the worst team's Logic says im correct..

oh and BTW we played with 3rd string team most of the year so when we played most teams they got to lay oir worst players and equally have shot at TOS..

its why you average the stats over 16 and not try and nitpick when and who you got them against..thats not how it works..

you are who your records and rankings say you are..

Like any draft there are tiers. In any given draft, IMO

Top 2: 4 x QB's
Top 5: Sewell, Pitts, and Chase
Top 10: Smith, Slater, Surtain Parsons
1st Round: Horn, Waddle, Darrisaw, Tucker, Barmore, Ojulari

And then IMO you can throw a blanket over 18-40 with not much difference down to about 75

No it is not. Getting to the playoffs, means you have a good enough team to go further, picking high in the draft says you have a ways to go to get to the playoffs.
Unless you are a decent team that had a lot of injuries, such as last season.

Wanting to be high in the draft is a loser mentality. Give me playoffs even if one and done.

Yeah and for the record my issue with the past 25 years isn't because they haven't gotten to the NFC championship....its the fact its become so rare to even get into the playoffs to begin with. Get me into the playoffs most years and I'll take that. Gives you better chances at winning and going further.
