Yeah but let’s be real Dak can sling the football….until the 49ers coming into town. He won’t hold them back….in the regular season anyway.

Dak in the regular season is the problem, it's when he needs to elevate the team because a running back went down, he can't do that.

That is why the Cowboys need a nasty defense to carry this team if Dak wants to get a ring, just like Eli got his defense to help, because your dog is not going to get it done.

I'm picturing a team what will become even more balanced than they've been in the past. I'm counting on a good draft to make sure of that. The offense needs to eliminate some of their inconsistencies, while the defense needs to eliminate much of their ways of allowing opposing RBs to confound them with gains that hurt them on a regular basis. Adding a monster DT would be outstanding.

I'm sure MM is dead set on improving the offense's running attack with some solid performances from the offensive line. One or two of those talented RBs the draft has to offer would also feed the bulldog well. Hopefully, a highly promising LG will be a welcomed addition to that group. It's something that's a desperate need. Add a big, strong OT to that corps and voila, we've got a winning offense.

Return to form?

Let's hope not! What form have you been watching for the last 7 years? Up and down up and down up and down, just like Romo. The form you are looking at just Dak, not the team.

Now, try and form a thought.

I wish they would take the biggest mofo on defense to plug the middle, but they don't do that for some reason?

Well where was this “nasty” defense against the Eagles? Was that not a pivotal game?

What? Why are you taking this energy with me? You’re upset because I said I hope Dak returns to form? Explain yourself…

That'd make my day, too! Someone must have told our FO that DT's aren't valuable. Either that, or they don't listen to folks who want 'em.

Dallas defense is the more talented squad.
Cowboys offense:
• Offensive line ----what was once the best position group on the team a few seasons ago is down to its last two stalwarts - an injury-prone Tyron and still viable but aging Zack - and both will be leaving the building soon (#77 after 2023, #70 after 2025...perhaps sooner if the team wins it all in the next two seasons). Thought-to-be-a reach rookie came in and really exceeded expectations...but can 2nd and 3rd year personnel step up?
• Running backs --- the most unstable group right now; after a good start, but then a poor finish - the longtime former #1 guy is history.
His replacement is rehabbing from playoff game injuries, and the current nos. 2 & 3 players have combined to produce a grand total of 45 carries for 185 yards and one touchdown.
• Wide receivers --- no need for me to rehash that story...everyone here at CZ knows how bad it was.
• Tight end room looks to be promising; will the three young players (along with a probable 2nd\3rd day draft pick) step up and replace the departed starter?

Will critique the Cowboys' D in a following thread.

Player wise Offense by a hair. Add in coaching and it makes up that hair with a haircut to the defense. I think it is fairly balance if you include coaching. The drafts top 1-3 picks will probably help with the tipping scale one way or the other.

When you look at the starters and others expected to make a significant contribution that were drafted, their own 1st round picks are concentrated around the offense. The majority of elite players in this league were drafted in the 1st round, no surprise there.

The Cowboys have 4 on offense, 2 on defense. However, they have three 1st rounders drafted by other teams on defense and one on offense. That's a grand total of five 1st rounders on offense and five 1st rounders on defense.

Looking at 2nd rounders in this same group, there are a grand total of five. There are 1 offense, and 4 on defense.

In the 3rd round it's three players, 1 on offense, 2 on defense.

In the 4th round there are five and they are all on offense.

Again, this is the group of starters and I added rotational players expected to make a significant impact. This includes additional D-linemen, both current RB's expected to get significant touches. I also included a few DB's and LB's that are not starters but expected to see a lot of action.

My method may not be the best for the most accurate way to measure talent, but I think it's the least arbitrary.

I would conclude from the data that the answer is.......pick 'em. The Cowboys have done a great job of dividing their talent pool evenly between both offense and defense.

This is the most well rounded team we have had since 2007 IMO. 2014 and 2016 defenses were heavily supported by an absolutely dominant rushing attack with the Great Wall of Dallas 2.0 + Murray and Zeke.

Yeah, totally agree. The big "x" factor is MMs new scheme. I am optimistically choosing to believe he will utilize more rub routes and quick slants etc. I'd love to see TP in more of a hybrid type role, like Aaron Jones as well.

If the scheme comes together with the talent we are in for a nice run.

This team should contend for the next few seasons. They are in the middle of a nice run. Let’s hope the breakthrough is near.
