Let's try to make this realistic, although anything can happen, but let's say:

4 QB's, Sewell, Pitts, 3 WR's are all off the board, who is your guy?

Slater-in my opinion, just makes too much sense. OL is starting to age and breakdown. Our all pro center retired, the other 3 high-end starters missed significant time. We just signed our franchise QB, run game struggled last season with all the injuries up front. Whenever, this team has had success in the recent past, is when their line was healthy and performing at a high level. Slater has the ability to turn our OL into good, back to elite.
 
Waddle or Slater.

Waddle adds an element that this offense doesn't have - speed - as well as flexibility with Gallup next year. Slater upgrades you at G and gives you a potential long-term solution at T.

Elite movement for his size. Already played rover position which is basically how Quinn uses SS's which is why he drafted Neal at 17. Can guard tight ends and play the run. Better athlete at safety than Jamal Adams who Dallas was obsessed with. Yea

This. Simply measured by impact. Jenkins, Carr, Claiborne, Jones and now Surtain?

And the overall impact to wins and losses?

I'll get back with you once Smith , Collins or both go down again or and Steele/Knight/Neske hafta start for more than 2 games.

All of a sudden the whole board's opinion will shift on taking zone corners and tight ends once Dak is on his back or even hurt again.

It's the ONLY thing theyve done well consistently for the last decade.
Draft, coach, and develop 1st rd o linemen.

And again, Rodgers(Bakhtiari)and Mahommes (Fisher/Schwartz)say hello in case anyone missed Tampas d line led championship over backup scrub o linemen.

Philbin ain't no miracle worker.
But I guess we could all use Jerry's approach to not picking the best linemen to protect his investment and hope his surgically repaired tackles hold up over a full season.
If you are a hope is strategy type guy.

100% agree.

If Pitts is there you 100% sprint to the podium because of the word impact that you mentioned.

We need impact players from the draft because where else will we get them? Free agency? Lol..



I’d take Slater > Surtain for the reasons you mentioned as well.

I don’t think our style of defense will matter much if we have Surtain or not. We’re just going to sit in zone and try to prevent big plays is my guess.

We’ve done that with success and not had a lot of talent when doing it.


Bolstering the OL and playing keep away with the football is probably our best path to success and in 2014 and 2016 we had Ron Leary on the line and he provided the ability to absolutely truck people in the run game and the entire offense was better with that mentality and it improved our defense as well.

Connor Williams and La’el Collins at guard never got the same results.

We also have to keep in mind that Travis Frederick is not going to be apart of this.

Appreciate it Catch, but I'm also including Pitts.

If the QB is on his back or injured he can't get it to Pitts.

Captain Crash posted a very likely scenario in which I believe at least one if not both of the 2 tackles goes down after approx. 4-5 games.

I ain't no fortune teller, prophet, medium or whatever. But that just a simple gut feeling opinion of mine that I agree with his.

Steele and Knight can't even handle WFT's or NYG d lines...

I would much rather have a better plan to protect Jerry's mistake, ahem, investment I mean., lol
 
1 Patrick Surtain II ideal Press man CB for the defense we'll be running. Great measurables including the length that Quinn values in a corner. He has very few flaws on or off the the field and one of only five pro bowl talents in the draft. Playing with his former teammate Diggs could have some chemistry benefit in terms of being on the same page schematic wise.

2 Rashawn Slater Five lineman in one. Improves both the run game and pass protection. He's strong with 33 reps on the bench and his blocking technique is very advanced. Arms are less than the desired 34" for a tackle but so are Sewell's.
 
Parsons. Best defender in the draft that addresses biggest weakness on team. Best of marriage of top talent / need IMO.

I’d also be fine with Slater.
 
Surtain
reason:
According to Pro Football Focus, Surtain played the most defensive snaps without a penalty committed this season (916) while allowing 6 penalties the season prior.
A Technical Marvel: What’s most impressive about Patrick Surtain is his ability to understand route combinations and drive at the ball. He rarely misses a step and quick to react when the ball is in the air.

This is a guy who rarely gets thrown at. Surtain was targeted only one time per every 10 coverage snaps and allowed a reception every 25 coverage snaps (#1 in the country).
Man coverage will likely be his biggest strength in the NFL.

Patrick Surtain II is by far the best press-man cornerback in the draft. He’s got skills that will allow him to thrive on the outside and in a Cover-3 scheme in the NFL.

Surtain for the simple fact that we get a guaranteed high-end starter at a position of need. We also would feel a lot better about our CB room with Surtain/Diggs/Brown/Lewis and whatever double dipping they do in the draft.
 
Daniel Jeremiah has us drafting Quitty Paye DE, Michigan with all of the defensive players still on the board. If this happens there will be lots of broken television screens around the world.

Incidentally, the Panthers play-by-play guy said today that he thinks Carolina will go OL at pick 8, meaning Slater could easily be off the board by the 10th pick.

In my scenario, all three receivers are off the board, but I get why you like Waddle.

In my opinion, you can find a good, cover 3 corner later on such as Melifonwu who fits the prototype.

I'm a big Slater guy, but feel Parsons is about on the same level. Both are blue chip prospects, where Slater is more high floor, Parsons high upside. Positional value is the decider for me, especially id Slater does indeed play Tackle down the line.
