The Cowboys have completed their draft class with the signing of defensive tackle Maliek Collins.

Collins, a third-round pick out of Nebraska, suffered a broken foot during organized team activity (OTA) practices in the spring, dealing another blow to the Cowboys’ depleted defense.

The initial diagnosis was that Collins could miss 10-12 weeks and all or nearly all of training camp due to the foot injury, but Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said during the spring he expected Collins back for camp.

The Cowboys selected Collins at No. 67 overall in April.

What was his timeline to return, about 2 weeks left in TC?
I can't remember right now. Way too early, woke up after 3 hours sleep. LOL.

Some mediots said he'd likely return about the time TC was almost over. Garrett indicated last spring that he should be back sooner. We'll see.

Just looked it up and he began rehab at the end of May. I'm figuring the middle of August to be about right for his active return if all goes well.

Still loved this pick.

With Collins, Thornton, T. Crawford and T. McClain we have the deepest DT rotation as we ever had.
Throw in Irving and J. Crawford that can play inside and outside, it's even better.

I think this can do a lot to helping the defense play better overall.

I'll rake Maryland, Casillas, Lett and Hennings over these guys until proven otherwise.

We just don't know if any of them can play other than Thortin. We seem to have a bunch of solid depth guys but no game changers. That could of course change.

Collectively they could be game changers...it is still a team sport, more so than most sports.

This was a pick highly criticized by the draftnik/scouting community. We shall see who was right. Collins carried a borderline 1st round grade before the scheme switch.

I'd accept that. But this line will only be as good as Gregory, Lawrence and Crawford are. Those are the potential game changers and now is the time to figure out what we have in them.

Collins will be a nice piece to our team, cannot wait to see him on the field.

Scheme wise he is a perfect fit here. Not a scheme versatile player though. I think he is similar to guys like Henry Melton and Geno Atkins that will only thrive in a scheme that allows them to get upfield. I see guys like that 2nd or 3rd round guys unless you are a freak like Aaron Donald
