He got in the dog house a couple years ago. It was something about him complaining and not seeing the point in preparing so well when he's only gonna ride the bench. It didn't sit well with the coaches. Remember how badly we needed him against the 9ers when TP went down? Not even then did he get a shot. It suprises me they kept him on the team after they refused to play him that game.

He may be on the PS again this year. I have liked what I seen from him though.

Zeke, Freeman, Peat, Leupke, Dowdle, Davis, Deuce, Conner

Freeman probably not 2nd on that list, but can't put him behind too many at this point.

How telling is it about how thin we are at RB that we are actually having a “who’s better?” debate between Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis?

Both are probably decent, backup RBs. And cheap. That last part is the most attractive piece for our FO.

Yeah...pretty sad we're comparing Dowdle and Davis. Such a low bar with our RB's this year.

I thought Malik showed more potential and promise than some jags we have back there. Like his running style and with some improved blocking may be even better. The RB coach, whoever he is, doesn't seem to do much coaching. None of the backs on the roster look like they have improved much with his coaching. That is why i wished they would have pursued Henry, just put him back there and let him do his thing....doesn't need this guy's "coaching".

Right. But neither one of them can take a swing pass, break a tackle and go 75 yards. It all goes back to should you pay a RB. I think sometimes the answer is yes. Everyone brings up how bad the Zeke contract was. While he was playing for us, he was only a bad cap hit for 1 year. It was bad for Jerry's wallet, but what fan cares about that?

I remember going insane about that during the 49ers game. It wasn't talked about much at all at the time. Just more proof that this team is ran by stubbornness and stupidity from top to bottom.

Exactly. Play him or move on.

At the end of the day, Davis is 205 pounds and ran a Pro Day 4.66. That's a very marginal NFL size/speed combo. You can count the number of RB "hits" with that kind of size and speed ratio on one hand.

Davis is an RB3 backup type. It is what it is. He's good enough to stick in the league, but not good enough to handle 200 carries.

Nothing is more beautiful than the "c" word around here (cheap!)

That was from 2022. Anyone can look good showing a few highlights. His blocking is probably an issue. If he was better than Dowdle he would be playing a head of him.

The good news is that several teams are likely to cut running backs after camp that would be upgrades here.

The bad news is the FO does not consider the position a problem, and Jerry is already selling Elliott as RB1.

Or is that two bad news?

Elliott is your starter. Jerry fancies himself as loyal and wants to be friends with Elliott. They definitely won’t be trading a pick for a RB, if they pick one up at all. Stephen is all for getting him “cheap,” so is Jerry’s ego after the last round.

I’d really be a lot more positive and confident if they would just admit they are doing some sort of reboot.

Telling us you’re doing all you can to win after that off-season doesn’t breed much confidence in that they have any clue whatsoever.
