He got in the dog house a couple years ago. It was something about him complaining and not seeing the point in preparing so well when he's only gonna ride the bench. It didn't sit well with the coaches. Remember how badly we needed him against the 9ers when TP went down? Not even then did he get a shot. It suprises me they kept him on the team after they refused to play him that game.
Probably would have lost his job to Zeke anyways. He had a point.

At the end of the day, Davis is 205 pounds and ran a Pro Day 4.66. That's a very marginal NFL size/speed combo. You can count the number of RB "hits" with that kind of size and speed ratio on one hand.

Davis is an RB3 backup type. It is what it is. He's good enough to stick in the league, but not good enough to handle 200 carries.
Did you watch him play? He doesn't play slow. He looked better than Dowdle. Clearly they don't like him as much as Dowdle. But they keep him on the roster. Doesn't make much sense.

The good news is that several teams are likely to cut running backs after camp that would be upgrades here.

The bad news is the FO does not consider the position a problem, and Jerry is already selling Elliott as RB1.

Or is that two bad news?

Elliott is your starter. Jerry fancies himself as loyal and wants to be friends with Elliott. They definitely won’t be trading a pick for a RB, if they pick one up at all. Stephen is all for getting him “cheap,” so is Jerry’s ego after the last round.

I’d really be a lot more positive and confident if they would just admit they are doing some sort of reboot.

Telling us you’re doing all you can to win after that off-season doesn’t breed much confidence in that they have any clue whatsoever.
Agreed. They are clueless.

I think we'd be making a big mistake to overlook the benefits of Malik Davis in the months to come. Malik had plenty of gains that were certainly very impressive when he was allowed to play in the past. He had a unique ability to make big gains through spaces that were extremely difficult to overcome. No doubt, he made a mistake by displaying a negative attitude to the coaches when that occurred. Perhaps it's time to forgive those mistakes, look to the future and be receptive of his running talent, once and for all.

How telling is it about how thin we are at RB that we are actually having a “who’s better?” debate between Rico Dowdle and Malik Davis?

Both are probably decent, backup RBs. And cheap. That last part is the most attractive piece for our FO.
It's interesting that the Chiefs play with a 7th round pick at running back. I think that the Cowboy running backs will be fine if the line blocks well.

RD1 - Elliott
RD3 - Freeman
RD5 - Conner
RD6 - Dowdle, Vaughn
UDFA - Malik Davis, Peat, Luepke (FB)

Davis has an uphill climb to make this roster looking at the pedigree ahead of him. Cowboys RB rotation needs juice off the bench, but that's not really Davis game.

And after 28 straight off-seasons with no divisional playoff win and the same GM and son, it gets tiresome to listen to the same old sales job.

Always thought Davis was better turn Dowdle . It was criminal against the Niners 2 yrs ago KM and MM with a playoff game in the balance Pollard hurt they refused to use him . Lost a lot of respect for both coaches that day. I think the ship has sailed in Dallas for Davis they would do him a favor let him play elsewhere .

Yeah but the chiefs RB Isiah Pacheco would be drafted much higher today than 7th in a re-draft. He‘s really good.

Doesn't matter to me what round a guy is drafted as long as they have talent that translates to what you need. I dont see what we have currently at RB giving us a better running game than last year when it was ok but not great. We need a better running game this year. Not sure we have that yet.

See oline. That's the 1st step. Also, Zeke does have something left. Then we at least have numbers in the rest. One or two of them are bound to have something.

Like the sales job on the kicker last year.

Comparing Malik Davis' situation with the Cowboys to what went on with Marcus Allen was at that junture of his career with the Raiders?
Way off base.
Finding a similarity between two situations does not imply considering them existentially identical.

Why doesn't this kid play? I think he's better than Dowdle.

Not a high hurdle.

But looking at the video, I see great blocking and holes that Dowdle would have run through just fine too. Either clear sailing or breaking arm tackles. Arms tackles that would stop Deuce, but that's another problem.

I don't think there's much to prefer between Davis and Dowdle. Both not horrible. Both bargain bin with low ceilings.

But their refusal to play Davis when Pollard went down in the playoffs tells you all you need to know about Davis' future in Dallas. His future ain't bright.
