He was one of my favorite players from last year’s draft and I even mocked him to us in the 1st. But over that offseason he was in an ATV accident that forced him out his entire rookie year.

The word is, he still isn’t medically cleared and the hope is that another team’s doctor will be able to. So if it’s true Seattle intends to cut him, I really hope the Cowboys bring him in.

He was a monster at Michigan State and can play wherever we need him across the line.

Why are the Hawks going to cut him? Kinda strange for a second round pick to not give it more time see what happens.
I think whatever another signs him to there might be offset language

That or his agent has ties to the FO. The 1st is more likely

Since it was a non-football injury, they’ll be able to recoup the money they gave him. I’m assuming that’s what they’re after.
Yeah but as a second round pick he is making chump change and could possibly become a beast for their D-line after they lost several D-linemen this offseason.

Possible but how much money would a second rnd guy have gotten
He wouldn’t have gotten his salary and he hasn’t accrued any time
So effectively he’s still a rookie
It’s a weird situation. They must not have much faith he will get cleared and just want to recoup whatever losses they can.

NO!!!

This dude had major red flags before the draft.

When the Seahawks, of all teams, are walking away from their 2nd rd. pick from 2017 this early, it should be a sign that even they don't think he could be turned around. Run, don't walk, away from the idea of this guy.
Unless a yet-to-happen ATV accident was a pre-draft red flag, I think it’s safe to say the two are unrelated.

Got to wonder if injuries may have been really serious to give up on him so quick
I’d sure get my docs looking at him if he is cut

Drafting him with red flags is a concern
Signing him for a min deal, not so much
If he turns it around, great
If not, you cut him and he can pursue a career as a stunt man

Red flags pre-draft (immature, combative with coaches/team mates, lacked discipline, poor decision making) was the reason fell out of the 1st rd. and surely pulled from a lot of teams' boards. And predictably, carried into his NFL career (before it even started):

- Just drafted, a few days out from going to his first training camp...he decided to race around on an ATV without a helmet and crashed. Red flag: Bad decision making skills.

- Months later, when he should be resting his friggin neck/head, he gets arrested for disorderly conduct and instead of cooperating with police:

"Officers struggled to subdue McDowell, according to the report.

'I repeatedly had to give him instructions and at one point he threw himself down on the ground in a tantrum,' one of the officers wrote in the report. 'He immediately accused me of stealing money from him, while I began to search his person, before placing him inside my vehicle, as we are trained to do. I tried to reason with him but to no avail.'

Another officer wrote that he pulled out his pepper spray before McDowell calmed down. "

^^^^Any of those previous red flags showing up again?

He was also arrested in December when he refused to leave a club and got into an altercation with police.

He’s being released because he hasn’t been medically cleared. If his ticket back in December was the reason for his release, it wouldn’t have taken until April for it to happen. It’s not a coincidence his release coincides with his medical eval, which is the only reasoning Rapoport cited in his tweet.

Physically he was one of the best players in that draft.

Similar to Robert Nkemdiche in that he has million dollar talent and a 10 cent brain.

At least a 10 cent brain is better than a Dez Bryant brain.
