Anyone else excited to see what he does this Pre-Season?

Also why was he cut in Baltimore? Was he just not good enough or did we sign him off their Practice Squad?

He's got some pretty sick measurables.

Not sure he was cut, e may have picked him up off their PS.

And we have a bunch of players in the mix at the satefy position. Should be an interesting battle!

Yeah i'll give the team credit for creating a ton of competition at all of our weak areas.

Even the D End and interior OL positions have a ton of good competition.

Needs to work on his balance on change of direction. Looks good though.

Could be his instincts.

So much of the success of playing safety comes down to instincts.

Although I do agree that instincts are extremely vital to the safety position, I think the video showed that after his instincts made him change direction, his balance was not all there. You just can't have someone falling down all the time in the secondary. Once he improves that, his value will rise. (This is just an assumption based on the video. Haven't watched game tape on him. :p: )

It seems like they like him, they've kept him around for a good while and when they talk about him, they talk about him as if he's a guy with a future.

I think I'm much happier with the safety situation than most people. I wanted Pool here a year ago and I think Sensy is a very good SS and a decent although not great SS. IMO he has proven that he can cover almost any TE in the league including the more athletic ones, though I think he struggles covering WRs and doesn't have top end range. I think Pool is above average covering compared to most SS. Between Church, Johnson, and Silva and with Campo gone I think they have a good chance to get develop at least one guy into a starter by next season. If Claiborne can come in in good shape and stay healthy (rookie CBs get nicked up pretty easily) I think the secondary could be much better than most people anticipate.

Yeap, all about instinct.

I think it's a little much to say that one slip in a workout means that he can't change directions.

Don't forget Eddie Whitley in the safety competition... or Danny McCray, for my money he's better than Barry Church... he's faster, and makes more of a contribution on special teams... if you're gonna be the 4th or 5th safety on the Cowboys' roster, you really need to contribute on special teams... I'd also see if Justin Taplin-Ross can play safety, I don't see him cracking the new logjam at CB, but he has safety size...

Senasabaugh, Pool, Johnson, Whitley, Silva, McCray and Church... competing for 5 roster slots at most... that will b a pretty intense competition...

Church is also one of our best Special Teams guys.

No but he doesn't look as fluid as I'd like either. His backpedal needs lots of work. He's trying a little too hard as well and that may have contributed to his loss of balance. His hips are a little tight.

Yeah, but McCray is our best... and while I like Church, his realtive lack of speed limits how you can use him... you don't have any such limitations with McCray...

Now, I'll be honest here, I have preferred McCray over Church since both signed with the Boys...

Taplin-Ross is not a CB, he is a safety, and he signed a three year contract back in January.

Dallascowboys.com lists him as a CB...

I saw that too in his backpedal it almost looks like he's forcing it too much and his hips are stiff so when he transitions it caused him to lose his balance in the drills.

He's got great hands and that vertical is really nice, but unless he can figure out how to smooth out his hips when he transitions he's going to lose a step every time.

Man, no kidding. His balance is terrible. There's guys that are fluid and then there's this guy. He's just awkward in basically everything he does.

He led the nation in Int for a long part of his Senior year. Tied some record for most Int in consecutive games. Finished with 8, which ranked 2nd nationally. His instincts are fine. He had a knack for coming up with a big play at key moments. I think he has a shot, albeit long.

His stiff hips are his biggest negative. He gets away with it from athleticism and desire. I personally think he bulked up a little too much. He had all those int's from the SS position, so I don't know how much man coverage I'd leave him in.
