Apparently has been lined up as gunner on 2nd kick off and punt teams. Has been having a good camp on offense. Are you listening Sam Hurd?

He's not going to beat out Sam Hurd.

I'll bet you a Whataburger that if only 1 of the 2 of them make the team, it's Sam Hurd.

Sam Hurd is going to be a player that eventually will be let go. Lots of hungry players who can play special teams like him with way more potential. I am not saying Johnson is one of them, I'm just saying you can't make it by on this team just by playing Special Teams... especially when you're at a position as logjammed as WR with talent.

So is late addition to the roster CB Teddy Williams, who hasn't played football since being in high school.

I'm a smidge more impressed with Williams getting on the second team so quickly than I am Manny Johnson (who is having a good camp).

I don't think Sam Hurd's spot is in jeopardy.

He's a great special teams player and typically produces as a receiver when given snaps there. I know Hurd didn't come up with a touchdown against Champ Bailey on 3rd and 4th down in Denver last year, but he is the player who converted the prior 4th down and advanced the ball 50+ yards to give us a chance in the red zone.

Hurd's a good player.

And Manny still has practice squad eligibility remaining.

I heard Ray Sherman praise Manny Johnson on a recent radio clip.

I like Manny Johnson, and I'm not saying he's going to be the ultimate.

However, I do think Johnson is a better WR option than Sam Hurd.

I"d much rather have Johnson's speed than Hurd's lack of speed on my depth chart.

It's nothing against Hurd, but I wish Johnson would win the # 6 spot. I"m glad to hear that he is playing gunner on the 2nd punt and kickoff teams, and I hope he wins that job.

If Johnson doesn't make it this year, he probably will make it for sure next year if someone doesn't snag him first. If Johnson gets some opportunities and capitalizes on them in the preseason games, I could see another team interested in putting his speed on their team.

Johnson has come on in the last week in practice. Let's see if he can carry it over to the game.

I'm inclined to believe that the only spot he's fighting for is on the practice squad. If we carry six receivers, the sixth will be Hurd. Otherwise, we carry five receivers.

Of course, if someone else blows the team away in the preseason that could change. But we really have no need to carry a sixth since that many will not be active for games.

I don't see why people are so in love with Hurd. He's a career special teamer who will be making 1.76 million dollars... If Manny or someone else is close, I think they'll go with the cheaper option.

Because it's not our money, there is no cap this year, he is a veteran that has produced on offense and special teams, and the team is gunning for the superbowl. If injuries at WR set in, I'd much rather have Hurd playing than Johnson. Johnson should get another year on the practice squad and if he continues to improve, a spot might open up next year. If the cap comes back and he gives you the same as Hurd in next years camp, I agree that you should keep him then over Hurd. But not this year!

Because he is probably our best special teams player and someone burried that deep on the roster is worthless as a receiver anyways.

His QB has also come out and said on at least two occasions that Hurd's got what it takes to be a starter in the NFL.

Like the others have said, I doubt Hurd is really worried about Manny Johnson. Next off season we will see what fate has in store for Roy11. Should he leave, that might be the only way Johnson sees the final 53.

In the very breif glimpses that we had a chance to see Manny Johnson in the Pre-season a year ago were for short passes and minimal gains.

However, to the interested observer Johnson looked like he could have something special, it was something about the way he caught the ball, it was also in the way he ran the route, there was a quick consistent look about him... he has "it".
