Manziel looking good

I think Manziel was pretty bad. Once the D figured out what he wanted to do, they forced him into some bad plays. He's young but no excuse for some of those plays. He's going to have to learn fast that he can't run around like he did in College. Drop quickly, make your reads and get rid of the ball. He still has not learned that yet.

I agree.

And If he's named the starter for next week, it will help that he gets a whole practice in with the 1's, and they plan the game for him. Having missed the last couple of pre-season games and not getting much practice since then, he'll resort to his instincts, which isn't good enough to win games like it was in college.

I think that a good week of preparation and a game plan will help but he has to stay disciplined in his play. The problem is that so much of his game is freelance, it's tough.

I would take him over Weeden any day of the week. Johnny Football is young enough to improve .

I can't believe people are still interested in this guy. He's the opposite of Romo in every way. Romo is a class act, a leader, a student of the game, and his own worst critic. Manziel is a class clown, a follower, a party animal, and thinks everything should be handed to him. I want no part of any QBs like Manziel. I don't really care about character when it comes to football players. But character is very important when it comes to evaluating QBs. You need someone intelligent and dedicated. Romo is about as good as it gets. We need to find someone like him. Fortunately, so many teams waste early picks on knucklehead QBs so we very well may find one lying around in the mid-rounds.

Romo was a partier when he was a young NFL QB. He snuck off to Cabo wtih Jessica Simpson during a bye week in the middle of the season in '08, instead of focusing on the next opponent. He's become what he wasn't when he was younger.

Manziel was definitely a party animal, but by all accounts he's put the alcohol and partying ways behind him after his 10-week off-season stint in rehab. He still has attitude certainly. But he has gotten away from the downtown party crowd in Cleveland and moved out to a quiet suburban home with some of his old high school coaches I think. People he wants to help him focus solely on the game. Hopefully he doesn't fall back into his old ways.

He may turn into a decent NFL QB or he may not. The talent is there. He may not ever develop it though. Who knows yet.

Haha Romo was a partier because he "snuck off" to Cabo? And I didn't know Cleveland had a party scene. Johnny must've looked hard to find them. It's not just partying. It's a desire to get better. I just don't see it in Manziel. Most QBs don't have it. Romo has gotten better every year and finally at 35 years old might be the best QB in the NFL. That takes dedication coming up from a guy who decided to play football at the end of his senior year of high school.

he's in , starter had concussion
22 yard scamper called back
One td pass, I was hoping Jerry would land him somehow. Should have traded for him earlier.

If Tampa Bay and Cleveland traded QBs right now, Manziel for Winston, I seriously couldn't even guess who made out on the deal. Might as well flip a coin.

Poor Cleveland fans, they just didn't realize how good they had it with Brady Quinn until now. Aaahhh, the good old days. Over before you even know it.

why does someone always have to praise him every time he shows he's capable of doing a simple tasks like wiping his own ***? Seriously, it took him 3 starts to throw his first TD. Took Jameis Winston less than two quarters, how many threads are we going to start saying how good he looked?

When Romo was dating Simpson, there were grumblings about how he would go off to LA after practices and such. He always made practice, film sessions, etc. But, there were people who didn't like it and I can see their point..that's a lot of traveling to be doing. And when he was dating Simpson, that was when he was probably at his worse. So it's not like he didn't party at all and the Cowboys had zero worries about him.

The difference is that Romo is far more mature of an individual and has been from the get-go. I think the Browns have horribly mismanaged Manziel, but he's made his own fair share of mistakes.

Just so you know how the "Cabo" trip went down, his head coach --- the great Wade Phillips --- instructed the players to get away for a few days during the playoffs bye week. Romo and his lady friend, along with Witten and his wife spent a couple of days there relaxing. There was no "sneak" and there was no "party animal" to it. In retrospect, was it a good idea? No. But I blame Phillips, not the players, for that.

I never thought there was a need to blame anyone. A player can sit on the beach and still focus on the game. I never thought it was an issue or a reason Dallas lost in the playoffs that season.

You're right. I should have chosen my words differently. The person I responded to had his facts wrong, and I was setting the record straight. I was just meaning to say the trip was a result of WP telling them to get away for a couple of days, but you're very correct in that there was nothing there for anyone to get blamed for.

Exactly. And if he goes to sees family in Wisconsin that weekend, it's actually a longer flight. Do people complain about that? Highly unlikely. It made no sense to complain about it then and it makes no sense now.

My point was it makes the same sense as complaining about Manziel's off-field activities.

By all accounts he's stopped doing that this past off-season. He partied prior to his first year but not this one. To continue describing him as something he's not anymore isn't fair to him.
