Is he really playing that bad? or average? or is it the rest of the deficiences on the O-line that make it impossible for him to get anything done?

Curious?

To this point Marco Rivera has been a BUST free agent signing.

I highly suspect that he has never been the same player as before his back surgery 3 weeks after we signed him.

He has played "average" at best. Parcells did not sign him for "average" play.

I am on the record for saying that I hope he is not back next year. I am sure with the huge signing bonus and contract however, that he will be starting RG next year as well.

The ENTIRE O-line needs to be overhauled with STUD free agent lineman.

We MUST sign Hutchinson from Seattle..FOR STARTERS........

No more big money FA's. How about drafting quality players???

He is a bust. He is giving up bigtime ground at the point of attack, he has had numerous penalties and underline this three times, he has not shown any leadership on this line what so ever.

Early on he seemed to be ok- not really great, but OK. But he has regressed - and I am thinking that is due to his back. Realistically once the back goes an O lineman is done- and that maybe the case here. But that does not explain all the penalties on him- that really is puzzling.

How would you do if you had Al Johnson on one side and a rookie 6th rd pick that has never played RT on the other side? Has he played up to his contract no but has anyone on the oline this year?

Who would take his place if he doesn't go? Gurode? Maybe we can actually run to that side then.

He was brought here to make those around him better. We were told that. Flat out hasn't happened.

How are we going to sign someone who will NEVER even make it to free agency?

That's like teams in the 90's saying "we better sign Larry Allen the second he becomes a free agent"

Actually it does. When he can't do what he used to physically then he has to start 'cheating' on snap counts and probably doing more holding to contain his man.

I really have a hard time knowing who has played well and who has played poorly on this line. Our best lineman this year has been no better than average. And I don't know how to fix it...

I would think that playing beside a rookie is going to make it tougher on the guard. I doubt the blame can be laid totally on Rivera. We have 2 OT's that are erally back ups it is ultimately going to make it tougher on everybody else right?

I think everyone overestimated Rivera's impact.

The talk that he would "make our right tackle better" was insane.

He was a good guard in Green Bay, but hardly one worth the type of money we let him command. We signed him immediately and to my knowledge, it was not like we had fierce competition for his services like we did Ferguson.

Well, there was the leadership issue as well. We had zero leadership on the line in 2004 -- honestly I don't think we are seeing that because Rivera has played poorly. We have heard from Pittdawg that Rivera spends a lot of time helping Petitti. Maybe he is making him better.

There was some competition as Rivera almost signed with the Lions. Me, I liked Wahle, but that is water under the bridge. I'm really hoping that Rivera is just suffering from back problems and will be better next year - but that is just a best case scenario.

-- miss the Henry there Alexander -- it gave your posts an air of intelligence.

Rivera has 3 sacks allowed and 9 penalties this year (6 false starts, 3 holding). Gurode never had 9 penalties in an entire season playing Guard.
